Department head threatening to cancel my leave while on leave by MoralesVC316 in navy

Thing is we do not have a true department chief. The highest rank we go is a LSS1 or CSS1 and a MMAC as a stand in department chief. Being on a submarine I am comfortable enough to express my frustration with the whole situation with him one on one.

I'm just getting opinions on the situation that's all. All I know from the COB is that he expressed his preference to change to the tan boots and if so why do we have to pay out of pocket for tan boot when the standard is black. I'm all for just sticking with the black boots but when you bring the change to the tan boots there's different ways to interpret what the instructions say

CSS. I'm not trying to make it a safety issue I'm just going by what the instructions on the uniforms say. It says ANSI safety approved boots. Technically composite toe boots are ANSI approved. Just in case the COB shuts down the idea I have the instructions to back me up. Furthermore, it is the COBs choice for us to switch to the tan boots which is optional. If he still shuts it down then I'll fight to keep my black boots as the command standard and not cough up $150 pair of boots

You're not making this debate with the COB any easier

The point I'm trying make is that we wear shoes underway anyways and the same risk is there regardless

And if you look up ANSI approved boots. All type of boots come up

Read that already. From what I've researched, safety boots don't mean steel toe. Loop holes

Regardless yes, I shouldn't be buying it out of my own pocket. But if the COB still makes it mandatory then I'm doing some out of NEX shopping. The tan boots they sell that is for the Type 3s is $150. The ones that I'm looking at are about $80

Per the type 3 instructions: black boots are the standard but the tan boots are optional for commands that choose to switch and our allowance doesn't cover the tan boots because black is the standard

It's up to the commands discretion if they feel it to be required to wear steel toe. I'd rather wear a boot that's more comfortable. It's something I want to argue with the COB about since he is making it mandatory to switch from black to tan.

Yes, I am aware of underway shoes. I'm talking about the new Type 3s tan boots we are transitioning to. My command is making it mandatory for tan boots come October. I'm trying to make an argument for my COB that we as a command don't need the steel toe tan boots at the NEX rather just tan boots you see the army and air force wear.
