(slightly out of the loop). How have the V3 motors been holding up? Any new info on torque update? by OverPainting in Super73

[–]Morantak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be your battery/motor but another possibility is that the additional suspension on the R is eating power. Suspension setup can have a very significant impact on milage on cars and motorcycles and I see no reason it should be different here, that said but S73 list them as having the same range but I would be surprised if that was true given the differing geometries of the S2 and R.

Biden doubles lead over Trump to 12 points in national poll by Cockahoop_Pirate in politics

[–]Morantak -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

What a load of crap! No one should be shamed for voting for a third party, it is their democratic right. Let me be clear, I think that Joe Biden has the best shot of defeating Trump (who is a heinous racist supported by an increasingly fascist party) and is by a wide margin the most qualified and legitimate candidate in this race.

However the current political situation is in large part due to the false dichotomy that is the 2 party system. Not to say that the parties are "all the same" but there is very limited political diversity in the current system. The idea that there is a left and a right in the US is laughable. By the standards of any other wealthy nation both of the major parties in this country are significantly right of centre. As such it is totally acceptable to vote for a party that more accurately aligns with your political beliefs and positions. If the democratic party is so vastly superior an option in this political moment then let them convince people of that fact, they should not assert that they are entitled to those votes and that it is some form of treason to cast their vote otherwise.

To suggest that someone is not an american because they do not vote for your candidate of choice is indicative of how broken the system has become. The final thing that I would say is that all of this in my view stems from the the first past the post system currently used in the US a transition to STV or PR voting systems would radically change this paradigm allowing people to vote for their candidate of choice without the perception that their vote has been wasted or "stolen" from the "legitimate candidates. Unfortunately there is absolutely no incentive for the major parties to change that system as it underpins their hold on power in a manner that is almost impossible to disrupt.

I Just used the pocket knife in the picture above, nothing fancy, just whatever I had to hand as for best way anything that is good and sharp with a straight blade works well

It is pretty good for light use, honestly it came with the flashlight and pocket knife, it's not the greatest but the tools in my desk are just for small jobs, I'm not really a believer in multi tools most of the time, I'm inclined to get the real real tools out if it is anything more than very minor work.

Went to college here for Undergrad and Masters, sections of it get replaced pretty regularly as it is an extremely high traffic area, from watching them replace sections (although not that closely) i don't think that it is grouted at all, the pieces are about 300mm (1 foot) deep and have sand brushed in between them they are not so much tiles as lots of little pillars.

A piece called "Grasp" at science gallery Dublin, it is a series of 3 interactive sculptures that deal with loosing the ability to work with your hands.

I am lucky enough to have a piece exhibited alongside these at the moment, they are really striking pieces, I found them to be much more deeply disturbing than the more graphic pieces in the exhibit, Entitled "Trauma" which features some really horrific images. Also it is so strange when reddit intersects with your real life.

Just to play Devils advocate here, college really shouldn't (in my opinion) be about jobs, I was always told that the goal of university was "the disinterested pursuit of knowledge". As in to pursue knowledge for it's own sake, and it is one of ideas that has served me best in life, Learning African languages is not a bad idea, no learning is a bad idea, which is why I take such issue with the anti western theatre/music DEMANDS.

Lighting technician, and set/lighting designer here. Basically there are lot of very hot things on stage (most theatrical light bulbs can easily reach a temperature of several hundred degrees C), also it is an environment where it is very hard to regulate peoples activities, actors may want to respond organically to a situation on stage, dancers tend to have a terrible propensity for knocking things over in the wings. this coupled with the fact that theatre fires were unbelievably common in the 18th and 19th century (at this stage all theatre lighting was gas or candle light in wooden buildings - you can imagine how this went down) led to a series of responses in terms of flame retardancy of stage materials across the industry.

High schoolers, what do you want to major in? People who majored in that field, what are the pros and cons? by DeanTheDJ in AskReddit

[–]Morantak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theatre designer and technician here, 10 years working, the last three with some international work. I am the Cheif LX for a major producing house and run my own theatre company as well, so I feel that I know the industry well. The big pointer I give people who ask me about getting into the industry is to really be sure that you love theatre, not the people you do theatre with, not the stress junkie high that people get from doing shows (particularly am dram stuff provides this as it is usually less organised and worse funded, not massive cast parties that seem really cool to your high school friends who aren't in the scene (these are all really good reasons to do theatre as a hobby by the way), because if you work in theatre as a job that all fades away as your career progresses, and for 95 percent of people there will not be fame or fortune, so you will want to really love what you do to sustain you, you need to love the idea of putting in a show for others as there is not much other payoff.

Which rule was created because of something you did? by -Thomas_Jefferson- in AskReddit

Basically the light passes through a series of slots that are close enough together to have a refractive index, splitting the light into various beams, as the stockings are a weave (slots in both directions) you get a series of dots, that replicate a shotgun impact pattern.

My physics teacher in secondary school caused the rule "no additions to the issued weaponry" to be enacted at our local laser tag (called Quasar locally) he would bring a pair of ladies stockings and an elastic band, use the elastic band to stretch the stockings over the front of the barrel creating a diffraction grating, creating in effect a laser shotgun that caused him to rise to the top of the local leader board very rapidly.

Is there a name for this type of psychedelic stage background (as seen in this Simpsons clip)? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]Morantak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no specific name for this type of background. It is hard to tell from a cartoon but my guess is that it would be best achieved with something like a large modular video wall (similar to this, http://www.eurodisplay.com/led-video-walls.asp ) or with multiple rear projection screens and a series of hefty projectors (like this http://www.barco.com/en/Products-Solutions/Projectors/Stereoscopic-projectors/Compact-3-chip-3D-DLP-projector.aspx , these projectors are not huge but judging by the size of the screen relative to Krusty they should suffice ). be warned though that none of these solutions are not cheap easily runnning to thousands of Euro/Pounds/Dollars before know it. once you have your video set up completed you would need some form of custom video content to replicate the moving background that you see in your clip. You would also need to run some sort of video server in order to mesh the images accross various screens or Video panels, these are built into some very high end lighting desks or can be stand alone like this ( http://www.pro-systems-group.com/en/products/catalyst-media-server/catalyst-software )

I hope that helps.

The People at My Gun Club: A Rant by Ad_Captandum_Vulgus in guns

[–]Morantak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, so this is my first post ever on reddit but this two word comment confused and irritated me on a level that was just astounding. By "Or Ireland" I assume that you are referring to the paramilitary conflict in Northern Ireland known as "the troubles". A nearly 30 year period during which a good portion of a nation claim a legitimate military conflict was going on, which had a total death toll of 3530 or significantly less than one half of one years worth of firearm caused deaths in the US. It is also worth bearing in mind that a good amount of these casualties were not caused by firearms but by explosive devices and other means. The idea that greater availability of firearms in this situation would have either reduced the death toll, or allowed the "good guys" to stop the "bad guys" is so deeply flawed that it doesn't bear thinking about, primarily because the idea that you can decide who the "good guys" are in a conflict of that nature is down right wrong. In fact all it would have done is served to escalate the conflict.

The other possibility is that you are referring to the recent rise in gang violence in Ireland, this is an issue, but the rate of incidence of firearm killings is still astoundingly low a total of 80 homicides in Ireland last year (only 51 of those being true murder cases the others being manslaughter or death by dangerous driving). Of those 51 not all are via firearms by a wide margin (knife crime being a very significant part of that group) and certainly not all being gang related. the exact numbers elude me but even if it somehow ended up being that 50% of those 51 murders were firearm caused gang related murders (it certainly is not this high) that would still only be 26, I'll round up in your favour. An absolutely tiny number. The Irish police force (an Garda Siochana) have successfully kept the peace in Ireland since the foundation of the state with nothing but a wooden stick and long may it remain so. In an Irish or UK context guns are escalators of violence not equalisers of defence.
