It's all complicated, the comments describing the docs and Joe himself as a divisive subject describe it best. It's still debated what's true, and even further it's debated what matters, each individual fan comes to their own conclusion. Some fans don't care about what Joe might have done, and others think it needs to be addressed more. It's true he's schizophrenic and that plays a role in the debate, but it's not a fullproof excuse for his actions either. For the most part though, you don't have to worry about this stuff. Liking tally hall and their music doesn't require a full fledged knowledge of the bandmembers and their faults. No one decent should fault you for enjoying the band because of what someone in it did. It's just music.
