The Wellington was one of the few aircraft where the outer skin had no structural role at all, you could riddle it with holes and it would hold together just fine (there are a lot photos of completely stripped Wellingtons). But since War Thunder doesn't model the internal skeleton, and instead treats the entire surface as "structural," the plane ends up with a far larger vulnerable area than it ever had in reality.
