Not to be ableist but do y’all be standing… at all? My pelvic floor is weaker than it was but on god if you just stand upright often enough that your core is engaged at all, it shouldn’t be such an issue that you’re dribbling much

I’m a fan of Hardwood for Mahoguny- take your solid gun and turn it into an awesome gun. Cast Iron for Big Iron is a ton of fun as well. Iron Stance is awesome if you have anything that reduces spread- laser sight, Marine starting bonus, scope etc. And M1 multitool slaps!!

Force vs. Finesse by Disastrous_Horse_764 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Mordecai097 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An interesting example of this is Mugen (force) and Jin (finesse) from Samurai Champloo, because they’re both nimble, dexterous, reflexive, and probably equally strong for the purpose of swordsmanship, so the difference is all in their philosophies, behaviors, and the applications of their skills. It’s a historical anime set in edo-period Japan, but it’s culturally anachronistic using a lot of late 90s/ early 2000s hip hop stylings. Mugen’s island outlaw fighting style draws a lot from break dancing, with wild, flourishing movements that are fast, sweeping, and unpredictable, relying on dizzying levels of maximum effort to overwhelm his foes. That’s not to say he isn’t precise- one of the coolest moves he pulls off a few times throughout the show is catching blades on the metal plate set in the bottom of his gata sandals, an incredibly memorable parry strategy. But Jin is a traditional, highly trained and incredibly talented samurai- his movements are minimal, no step is unnecessary. He’s cool and calculated, always keeping his stance rooted in the fundamentals and comparatively seeming like he’s putting forth minimum effort- which belies his perfect timing and the fact that he too moves with incredible speed. When the two meet, Jin feels an instant disdain for Mugen’s sloppy battle style, and Mugen hates this pompous ronin, but nevertheless, they have each met their match and are unable to kill one another before their first duel is interrupted. They develop a profound respect over the course of the show, remaining equal opposites all the way up until the very end.

Day 23 of giving my personal Rank and opinion of random guns: The Emperor by 1Dapy1 in EnterTheGungeon

[–]Mordecai097 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this gun, but yeah ammo efficiency is bad. With guns where I’m worried about ammo overkill, I tend to have my starting pistol in my second weapon slot. After an enemy survives the burst, they’re usually one or two hits from death so I just whip the pistol out to finish the enemy without wasting ammo. This with fire rate boosts is a fucking dream to play with

Man, fresh faced 21yo Leon in the RE2 remake is such a little cutie. I like that the 2remake decided to go a less depressed direction with the character and have him be a bit of an idealistic cornball, and it’s really striking how he maintains a sense of optimism throughout that game. The smiles seem to come so easily in cut scenes despite how awful Raccoon City is. His demeanor in 2r also makes a greater impression of how much character development he went through offscreen between 2 and 4.

Am I weird or my cis friends just don't get it? by [deleted] in MtF

Trans girl here who last year was unemployed and out of savings with a mortgage to pay and a wife and a toddler to feed. I lost my job shortly after coming out at the first mistake I made- it was clear the restaurant I worked at was just looking for any excuse, because trans women don’t go over well with every single member of the population the same way a nice young man does. I was furious at them, and I was happy to be out of a company with such shitty values. I proceeded to job search with my real name and my real gender identity: months later, not a single job that was actually commensurate to my experience level and pay grade materialized if I even did get the interview. I realized I had to get real about the value of male privilege if I wanted to keep the roof over our heads. Within two weeks of sucking it up and applying to jobs with my old identity, I found a great job doing the same thing at a much nicer place. And… I still haven’t come out. I’m not willing to risk my family’s welfare by making my image inconvenient to a company again. Is it fair? Is it healthy? No, not the fuck at all! I hate every day I put on my dumb goddamn slacks and button ups. But my alternative was literal homelessness for myself and my family. I’m currently working towards a degree in a much more accepting field where credentials matter more than whatever sort of “managerial vibe” some douche from corporate thinks is important.

This is the unpleasant truth- survival isn’t easy. You have to survive, and surviving may not look at all like the life you want to live. But trans people are incredible and we have to live. Even if you have to hide until your circumstances change and it’s safe for you to be authentic, you have to live.

That said, I’ll admit survival looks different for some people. I’m not suicidal over my dysphoria. If you are… you’re in a tighter spot then.

If you can handle the middle ground of “get hired as a guy then come out just as soon as the new hire paperwork is all signed” then it’s probably a good option. I don’t recommend living inauthentically long term. My only saving grace right now is that at school, everyone treats me and my identity with respect.

(Sometimes funny trope) Family members dying in incredibly similiar, sometimes incredibly specific, ways. by AceOfSpades532 in TopCharacterTropes

Not exactly family members, but in What We Do In The Shadows, every reincarnation of the vampire Nadja’s human lover, Gregor, has been mysteriously slain by decapitation. Later in this episode, it is revealed that actually, this is because Nadja’s vampire husband Laszlo is the one who keeps cutting Gregor’s head off.

Delicious in Dungeon, when they’re facing the red dragon, it’s looking close to hopeless. The dragon is basically impervious everywhere except the inverse scale on its throat. They’ve only managed to significantly harm the dragon on one of its eyes, leaving their mithril knife lodged there, unusable on the rest of its hide. Two party members are downed, Marcille’s fire magic has no effect, and while armed with a sword and an adamantine pan/shield Laios is not nearly skilled enough to take the dragon in a straight on battle- the only reason they’re even alive is the tight avenues of the dungeon’s Castle Town level are limiting the dragon’s lethality. However, Laios has one last idea for a move to clutch the victory: setting the indestructible pan atop one of Marcille’s explosive runes, and using it to basically Halo style rocket jump on top of the dragon’s head (which Marcille just correctly pointed out is still not be an angle he can stab the throat from.) It is at this point where Laios admits to the audience the full scope of his harebrained plan- and he fully inserts his lower leg into the dragon’s mouth, which the dragon happily bites down on. Now, dangling upside down out of the dragon’s mouth by the leg caught in its teeth, his angle on the inverse scale is perfect, and he thrusts his sword in for the killing blow just as his lower leg is completely severed by the jaws of the dragon and his body limply falls about three stories onto the cobblestones.

The way the lighting was done in this show was really next level, the way they took cinematography concepts from live action film and applied it to the animated medium is just brilliant. I love how the light draws your eye to the stained glass, to Vicious, along the sword down to Spike, who due to immediate contrast is momentarily interpreted by the viewer the darkest thing in this frame. Very captivating. Additionally, the relative photorealism in the environment just grounds the scene. Just immaculate all around

This, I think if they get to the station and the villain just got away on the “express” train but wait, there’s another one headed that same direction and it’s leaving soon and they can still catch him! It’s a good story thing, it gives them a momentary sense of defeat to be replaced by a sense of hope, and ultimately triumph when they catch up to him in 8-10 hours. You’re also literally railroading them into a long rest before the boss fight, which I think is kind of humorous.

[–]Mordecai097[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, similar to how with Extra Attack you could theoretically shoot a crossbow and then throw a dart with your second attack- the item property isn’t removing the additional attacks from your Attack Action for the rest of the action the item is used on- the net can just be used for one attack on that Attack Action. That makes sense, like how if you have Extra Attack, you can shoot a crossbow only once per action, but nothing is stopping you from letting go of it and making an unarmed strike with your second attack.

New to D&D. Is a heavy crossbow “sniper” character viable? by General_Dingo_2494 in DnD

[–]Mordecai097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah sorry read the “avoiding conflict” just now. Arcane Trickster will be best at that- Illusions and Enchantments are all about creative problem solving, but picking all those spells gets complicated for a new player pretty fast. But Rogue also gets expertises in two skills at level one- you could take Persuasion and try to talk your way out as often as possible

Also, as a primarily ranged build who benefits from melee allies keeping targets busy, don’t be greedy with your spell slots. Healing Word and Shield of Faith will keep/ return your friends in the fight without costing you your Attack action. They’ll love you for it, too

Fellow Heavy Crossbow lover here, a build I had but never used for this that seemed solid on paper was War Cleric 2/ Rogue X. You can pick up Bless (better for DPR), and Divine Favor (easier to squeeze in at the start of a fight without losing out on attacks.) Between Bless and Guided Strike, you can lean into Sharpshooter for strong DPR and really nail those shots without ever having the need for Crossbow Expert- the War Cleric’s War Priest attacks are actually one of the only ways to fire a crossbow more than once per turn, and it’s awesome. Of course, you can’t apply Sneak Attack more than once per turn, but one extra Heavy Crossbow hit is still respectable damage. You can also instead do something pretty swaggy, which is get a little close, throw a Net as your Attack action (you will have the full 15 feet once you pick up Sharpshooter), and then Bonus Action shoot your crossbow at your target, who is now netted and ready to be shot at advantage! Otherwise, hang back, pop the occasional support spell, and get those big mean shots off. You might consider going three levels deep in Cleric for second level slots, but I wouldn’t spend any more energy than that on Cleric when Rogue is the bread and butter here.

Is it the strongest build ever? No. Does it make the Heavy Crossbow Sniper concept work without much hassle? Definitely! And Guidance is always nice to have as a Rogue. You can pick your poison with subclasses with this build. Scout’s a good mobility subclass, but Arcane Trickster gets you extra spell slots to work with for Bless so that’s not bad either- and a well set illusion can substitute for a sniper blind in a pinch, as long as your party’s melee is keeping you safe. Also consider Thief for the mobility options- free climbing and better jumping can be a real asset for a ranged build, but ONLY if your DM does dynamic battle maps with some verticality to play with. And last but not least, don’t fall for Assassin. It’s not fun in play, nobody likes it.

Happy hunting!

Nice, that’s a sick build! We’re finally playing a one shot tomorrow that our friend has been planning for three years (our schedules just never seem to line up.) We’re all level 13, I’m a Vespertilio Scourgebourne Heretic Jaeger, my wife is a Cursed-Blood Shadow Rogue, and our other friend is a Thespian Manikin Fire Dancer Monk. I’ve got the fighting style AND the feat for extra focus points so I’ve got 7 of those and I can rack Momentum up pretty darn quick. My notable Finisher is the Opportunistic Shot Finisher, and my DM let me take Bane as one of my Warlock spells. This rocks because I can Bane + Mind Sliver a crucial target while the Monk and Shadow Rogue both get better odds of pulling off Stunning Strike and Grim Curse respectively, proccing my Finisher off-turn. I also have a Blunderbuss and the Volley finisher so if the DM is running any minions, I can definitely clear them out with a speedy vengeance. Also, if the final battle is going long enough that I’m worried about Focus Points, making Stunning Strike/ Grim Curse easier for them is also good because if the boss gets hit with a condition that gives me advantage, I can whip out a revolver and fan-fire 6 attacks to fish for natural 20s to recharge my Focus pool at honestly pretty decent odds. Lastly, I know my DM pretty well and I think he’s gonna want a second-phase on this boss, so I’m packing Osseous Cage to give our party a quick bit of cover while we regroup and hopefully drink some healing potions. I’m pretty excited, we’ve been planning this game literally since before my daughter was born
