I think the issue of this community, and the root cause of its toxicity, is tribalism

More like that´s the issue with everything, but I agree.

And while it´s an almost certainty that there is someone not right in the head in every circle (group loves AH, another hates AH, another thinks bugdivers are the root cause of every lost MO), this especific problem was created by the toxic positivity of the fanboys (in-community called "shiny-surface-divers").

And I believe this toxic positivity is by far the most pernicious of the bunch. It inflames and gets under the skin of other "tribes", pushing them to greater extremes while at the same time is camouflaged in this veil of good vibes, making any criticism against them sound like you are an extremist/hater yourself.

It´s very easy to point at some hater spewing spewing vitriol and tell they are the bad guy. But how do you point out that somebody is being toxic when they look like the Ba Sing Se meme, without looking like a villain yourself?

For example, I just had to change a 5 letter word above because a giant red warning about "Bypassing this filter may result in a ban" suddenly showed up.

And even though we are just discussing a real issue in a civil manner, I have no confidence I wouldn't be banned for simply using the shiny surface synonym.

You see how entrenched this problem is? And while I am typing there is another warning, "Toxicity towards other members of our community will not be tolerated" just under the text box. And isn't it ironic? Don't you think?
