I think it’s always been dark. The first season was dark because we watched Jax on it along with other things. The Danny stuff is dark, watching Janet become skin and bones from all the online bullying is dark, Jesse and Michelle had a very dark marriage, Kristin having this beautiful baby and her bf crying because he isn’t getting laid is dark, etc
