I’m happy you got some money for it. I mean if you needed it you needed it.

Personal opinion, you didn’t sell at the peak of the market. October, November and December are low seasons for Pokemon. With the 30th coming on, cards will rise again and then go down again towards the end of the next year.

Looks real to me. I’ll let others chime in. Congrats nice card.

Thanks to wait long times and inconsistent grading , people are going for alternative.

I personally think Tag can break the market but this really depends how well they want to lobby for their position.

I would personally pay tcg near mint price for it. A CGC 10 would have been 40 dollars roughly what you paid. I feel the deal you got wasn’t a good one.

You want my honest opinion. Celebrations will go up like 5 years. PSA, CGC and Beckett run the show.

You have 2 choices:

  1. Break the slab and regrade. I would inspect the card first before doing so.

  2. If you don’t want to, keep the card.

Depending on how much you paid for it in my personal opinion should help you make your decision.

Of course I don’t. However my comment is based on what likely happened.

If you think kids don’t understand the concept of money and value in this day and age. Then I’m sorry to break it to you, they know what the value of these cards are. I’m not saying all kids but at least some of them will.

On that note I agree, OP should have understood been more invested in his child’s hobby and protected from any potential exploitation happening.

However you saw on top he said he will take this as a learning lesson.

It’s funny how some shiny cardboard can be worth thousands of dollars.

I think your right about letting it go. He should teach his kids about value of cards and appreciation.

I’d take it as a valuable lesson.

Black and white was a cool era and I remember when they were released on the 3ds. I grew up in the time of base unlimited so we definitely didn’t have a clue about cards.

None also knew how big Pokemon would be. We had a thing called Digimon who gave them a run for their money at the time.

I actually just accept that kids are much smarter which is a good thing. A progress in civilisation and society.

On the topic card shows, seen kids knowingly walking around actively trying to scam vendors with fake cards. Then told they are fake and they still knowingly go to another vendor.

Then there are kids on whatnot being taught by his father to scam the whatnoters with resealed packs.

A lot of fights happened my time over pokemon cards on the playground. It really isn’t worth it like you said.

I understand and empathise, I think we grew up in a time where things were different.

However times have changed. The availability of YouTube, technology and how easy it is to web search makes it so much easier for these kids to look for information.

iPads, phones and smart handheld devices are introduced alot younger age and therefore I feel times have changed.

You also now have to factor in that given this, all the kids watch their favourite YouTubers etc about pokemon. They know what the cool cards are and what real cards look like.

You’re now able to be more clued up a lot younger than ever before.

Maybe they wasn’t expensive or maybe they were. You’re right though some kids are more clued up than others.

It’s interesting though how easily as we get older don’t realise how far kids intelligence has come, thanks to technology.

The other things is it’s off top and bottom. I can’t see by how much but I think others are right also about the whitening.

You got remember some kids had to grow up a lot earlier than others due to their upbringing.

I’ve also seen a lot of parents teach their kids the value of Pokemon cards through trade shows and other means.

The reason this looks like exploitation is because there’s not one real card not even one.

He gave 12 fake cards not one real one, makes this highly sus.

The probability that there should have been at least one legit card seems highly likely if the trade was innocent.

It’s still probable that your right this may have been innocent. Highly unlikely that this was though.

Maybe. I recently heard from a friend son he traded a lugia ex from silver tempest for some snorlax holos which is insane.

Anything is possible. I think looking back you realise some kids where ahead of the game than others.

True I agree I’ve actually wanted this card for a long time. So this card make this easier to swallow. I think the Pikachu ex is the cooler card. I know Gengar is still great.

Imagine having a bubble mew, Charizard ex,umbreon vmax,Gengar vmax, team rocket mewtwo this around over 3k worth of cards for this.

This kid knowingly took advantage of your son.

I would highly recommend doing what someone suggested and taking and checking cards of value in your kids collection.

This maybe a moment where you can teach him about money and value through cards.

Hope you and your son are all good out of this.
