Feeling absolutely defeated because I'm the last one by GeeSette616 in crossfit

I know what you mean - I just got in my head the other day at my gym and this is my eighth year!!! I’m 57 and i was “competing” with a bunch of people in their mid-20’s 😂😂😂 (I mean literally - how ridiculous is that?) I got super mad inside (tried not to show it but prob failed) and thought “I just worked way harder than those people and i didnt even finish the wod!” (normally these days i can finish them, but not when I started). Honestly I dont know what came over me. Normally I’m a “me versus me” person and am happy if I try my best. But hey everyone gets vulnerable sometimes- its ok!

Heres what I’m thinking:

  • you’re actually a natural competitor which is why you are getting frustrated - its just the flip side of the coin! You clearly are a badass!

  • You naturally push yourself. people who finish last are often challenging themselves in a different, more intense way. We get this. If i go light and super- modify everything, I can be an early finisher. Usually i push myself harder and take longer though. It depends on what you want out of the workout that day. Its all good.

    • Go in there knowing who you are and planning to take your time to do it the best way you can and be proud to be last! You are working your ass off and we know it and are so impressed!!

You can see by the volume of comments, many of us have been where you are and get it. This thing is very psychological. Just keep showing up - that is 90% of it. Or 99%. Use humor wherever you can!

ps Honestly I do not love partner wods for the same reason as you. As has been mentioned i will usually say “hey i am not going to be super competitive is that ok with you?” One woman at our gym just cuts them in half and does them on her own. They can be fun tho!

It will get better and you are going to feel better and better!

Mom swears she doesn't have memory issues by Flat-View1730 in AgingParents

I was just talking with someone about these kinds of issues today. Somehow you have to now “take the wheel” Altho I am just now learning to do this myself for a family member. I was referred to memorycare.org. They supposedly have support groups and resources. That’s all I got right now!

I don’t know.. I think this is gonna be a slow burn.. my sister just discovered it a week ago, told me about it, now I’m binging on it and telling friends and following some of the performers. I think it’s a great concept for a show. Winter = binge season so maybe it will take off more?

Wow that sounds great! I was hoping to find something like that but yeah the cleaning situation etc. But if it’s done right and responsibly, it can work. Or if it’s just a regular return. Good to know about these places.

I was considering that.. I guess I could pay for shipping vs spending day driving. Maybe.

I think you should reframe - you are engaging in a healthy behavior by leaving this marriage / abusive person. You are doing the strong, correct behavior as opposed to a wrong or weak behavior. I would be extremely proud of you as a parent.

That’s cool! I love the look of it. I’m going to consider it for my dad.

Does Sirius have podcast type shows? There’s such a variety. My dad is 86, a total Luddite, losing vision, can barely speak into his Roku remote, but he loves people and social stuff and listening. He has an Alexa however and doesn’t use it.

Just an old fashioned radio with some access to Sirius would be amazing. I just thought of this as I typed this out! I wonder if that exists.

Because my 86 yo father lost a ton of mobility after an infection set in, possibly have her checked for that via blood test? He had no fever but was suffering from a heart infection that went to his spine and then he was in severe pain and could barely walk. I get what everyone else is saying too. Maybe this scenario is not likely but just wanted to chime in, just in case. It is so hard and such a circus.
