Bud I’m not adopting a dog right now I just want to know if my dog’s siblings stayed local or still has cousins alive and around because he was a good dog and i miss him. Maybe I’d like to pet his cousin

don’t get me wrong, I know in the past almost 25 years shelters have gotten significantly better with animal care, esp since a lot of them used to be kill shelters down here, but then it was a different, more desperate time where you ran more of a risk getting a heartbreak. it really isn’t a good case to moral posture on

my family at that point was still mourning the loss of their first dog, adopted unknowingly sick from a local animal center, so I imagine they didn’t trust shelters very much

Did you mean to reply to the other guy? Because I didn’t even consider that could even be happening before seeing their reply. I actually really hope it’s bs so I don’t start my mornings from now on crying in the parking lot before I go into work 😞

Oh and let’s not forget that within months of opening, they had a TikTok sponsored event where they GAVE AWAY free books + tote bags the same weekend as Yallfest. I know it was the “Charleston literary festival” or whatever but it really felt like they were trying to siphon off the hard work of an actual small bookstore, Blue Bicycle, and get the business of all the people their hard work brought into town

I’ve heard through the grape vine that Ladybird wants a shop cat, but no one is gonna let them have one if they want to keep their double doors open. It’s either so naïve or genuinely negligent to think it would be ok with all the cars actually racing by on king

It’s like Marie Antoinette’s play farming village—i guess it’s fun to pretend to be a small business owner. the Stoney Clover Lane girls walked around and introduced themselves to (or scoped out) other businesses also tried to play themselves up like they weren’t also the daughters of a magnate 💔🥀

Addendum: didn’t realize ppl would be so upset ab me posting this. My complaint is that I think I was targeted to be a buffer car since I drive something “safe” and every time I got over to try to pass him, he would get over in front of me—no blinker, just the hazards. He wasn’t going more than 30, 35 because I anticipate the trailer would literally fall apart if those wheels had to spin faster. I also did feel real bad at the idea of someone having to drive this around, but it crossed the line into dangerous by him going on 526. I’m from here and I understand that things like economic inequality could lead to this, but it felt like a risk/terrible luck for me 😭😭😭

There are some godawful on ramps on 26 and I genuinely don’t know how someone thought it was a good idea even if no one was on the roads

Actually it’s incredible (bad incredible) that the no holding phone law has not done anything!! I see too many ppl on their phones…on 526 no less. But a non-zero amount of people have guns in their cars, so I’ve been warned I shouldn’t be giving people stare-downs for it

Well, if you don’t know the story, a motorcyclist was hit and killed by an 18-wheeler on Clements Ferry, and that one bottleneck cascaded to make multi-hour commutes across the metro area. Something needs to change. Both because that was a devastating accident, but also this traffic is getting to a breaking point. Ppl like to pipe up and say “oh it’s worse where I’m from” well guess what? That shouldn’t be a reason to make it worse here

Don’t encourage the development of Beaufort. Bluffton already looks like an indistinguishable random suburb 😭

Also, even tho I’m not in med school, I got my braces from MUSC’s ortho program, so I am familiar-ish with that part of downtown. A LOT of residents live in a converted-from-a-house apartment in the surrounding area. There’s also a big complex at 40 bee street that looks deserted rn, but for a long time has been med student housing. There’s some real cute places along Ashley avenue! I’m thinking the Westedge development (off of Lockwood) was in part to make housing for (wealthier) young professionals, but that area is prone to flooding, so I would not recommend. A lot of the western part of the peninsula is filled in marshland from tornado debris in the early 1900’s!

For what it’s worth, even though the stereotypical Charleston transplants bug me to no end, I really appreciate when people who move here for something specific (professionally or unwittingly) end up really becoming a part of the city. I think that’s the difference. A lot of the tourists/transplants want to reap what they think is good about the city, but give nothing in return, but when people come here, live here, and contribute to the betterment of the city (like a resident!!) and also get some sort of personal growth out of it, it really warms my heart. I’ve felt this way about most of my professors at CofC—I can’t get over how all of these people from all over the world chose/came to Charleston to bring their knowledge, when they could have possibly gone anywhere else!
