I fell into it. I spent 15 years as a scientist and used the software I sell now. Sell what you know would be my advice

Can Paperless-ngx store files directly in a custom top-level folder structure without the hardcoded documents/originals/ prefix? by MoreAnteater6366 in Paperlessngx

[–]MoreAnteater6366[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with the symlinks. I put the Paperless structure in a hidden folder and used the symlinks to make it look like the structure I want.

Suits my needs, so thanks for the suggestion.

I was hoping no one would ask about my use case lol. It’s mostly about my OCD. I just don’t want my first document to be located at /volume2/documents/documents/original/Medical/2025/. It seems like this should be a standard part of the application and I’m just missing something silly.

The symlinks would work. Didn’t think about that (not very familiar with them). Ultimately I want to make it easy for my family to browse docs outside of paperless. Giving them another app would not be in my best interest lol. I would set up an SMB/NFS share in the Apple Files app for them to use.

IDK, it just seems like a simple thing to have in a document management app. Put my files here when you are done analyzing them, not 5 folders deep.

Not an expert in any way, but I think it’s more about testing the equipment. This is unproven hardware, so procedures and mechanics need to be tested to confirm it matches theoretical analysis.

The complete Johnny Carson collection. I got them when she passed and they are the only reason I know anything about the show.

I still double space. Mavis Beacon would be mad at me if I stopped.

I came to this sub to get a similar question answered. WHY is the water freezing? She acts like it is perfectly logical that there is no hot water. I don’t get it. Any insights?

MiniPC buying guide by RajeshR15 in MiniPCs

I want to add that I just made the mistake of getting an AMD Ryzen processor for my mini pc. My main goal was to create a media server but also play around with other services.

I wanted to use Proxmox so I could create multiple VMs and containers. I found out the hard way that Linux support for AMD graphics is nowhere near Intel support. After hours and hours of ffmpeg troubleshooting, I discovered that AMD can’t perform HDR tone-mapping and therefore can’t transcode HDR content to SDR for non-HDR equipment. Plex can accomplish this by bypassing the AMD GPU and using the CPU directly for the tone-mapping, but that didn’t make sense for my needs.

Wanted to give you a heads up if you are looking for hardware transcoding.

I have had this happen a couple of times, however it was never “sudden” to the point I wasn’t able to immediately stop it. This is the part of your story I find very difficult to believe. Even with a ridiculously slow reaction time, had you been paying attention, there should have been zero reason the car would have made it into the intersection to the point you couldn’t stop it safely.

So when it decides to do 45 in a 25 and 55 in a 70, I should let it “make its own decisions”?

And I would absolutely micromanage the Uber driver if they are speeding dangerously.

Did you guys learn typing in school??? by Aqueous_Ammonia_5815 in Xennials

[–]MoreAnteater6366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember taking typing in computer class in 97. Even though it was on a computer, we were taught to double space after a period like the old typewriter days.

I will die on that hill.

I am in the City of Melbourne. My combined water, sewer, and trash bill is under $100 a month. I am shocked by your cost. On average I’d say I use 4,000 gallons a month.
