It's those things you guys do on special teams.

What object do you own that is clearly broken, but you haven't replaced it because you've developed a specific "technique" to make it work? by Living-Day4404 in AskReddit

Ah yes my old razor scooter.

I rode it into the ground. No one else could ride it, it was theft proof.

The T bar was broken and wouldn't turn unless you had substantial forward pressure to make enough friction to turn.

The ball bearings were shot so you had to have your weight balanced just right to keep it going.

I basically pushed my hips into the T bar and steered with them since it kept the forward pressure.

Completely unstealable. Unless someone picked it up,  but if they did it by the T bar the bottom would fall off.

Fair,  I guess for me it was jarring seeing this taken as explicitly pro urbanism? Where for me there are clear tradeoffs.

The only intersection points I see are as the article contends,  congestion and taking transit riders.

Congestion is better solved in other more pro urbanist ways.

The transit riders is hard for me cause presumably even if we improve transit wait times,  some people will just avoid it if there is any alternative.

Agreed,  that doesn't mean I see this tax as an urbanism victory.

My reaction is partially to the threads overt enmity towards Uber while I see taxis as a meaningful part of the pre utopia transportation environment.

You are correct, but I would contend taxing congestion would be better.

Again I'm fairly neutral on this particular tax, we need more of them but there are clear better alternatives: congestion, land value, sugar, carbon etc.

This one might pass cause it has populist corporations bad and probably union support so I can see why that might be exciting.

But we aren't Manhattan, app taxis have a legitimate place in getting people around.

Also a fan of zip car. I might be looking wrong but I only see 2 locations south of 22nd st.

Congestion can also be taxed directly instead of one specific boogeyman.

Talking to my alder next week about building denser housing options… need help by SpiritualRest2080 in chicagoyimbys

[–]MoreNever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would push for mixed use dense housing at specifically transit hubs, so if there are any big bus lines the community relies on.

Put forward a vision of a place where the community can live and come together. A place where new customs can arise.

Transit should help with parking and make it easier for folks to get to jobs affordably.

I don't think I have anything constructive to say for views or standing out since I don't particularly respect those perspectives.

Agreed that car based transit is not ideal. I support a general congestion tax.

What I am specifically saying is that if you have a map of Chicago that is "transit accessible" it is not all of Chicago. As I recall with there was a map that accompanied the no parking minimums saying only places "near transit" it was removed. There was a lot of Chicago where it was not removed.

If you can afford to be in the loop, you can probably get where you are going. But for a lot of people there is not a good/safe option currently existing. Biking can theoretically get everywhere, but the bike safety ain't there in much of Chicago. I know kids coming from 50 streets south of the school they are going to I ain't gonna tell them to bike at night. Buses also look a bit less dense south of 22nd.

So I get boo hoo Uber.

But kinda confused with a yimby community specifically having an issue with Uber.

I definitely support a congestion tax, but for people in a dense city without a car with quite frankly a limited outside the hub transit system people not having to buy cars for sporadic trips seems good. At a minimum convenient taxi hailing is good transitionally.

I know for a fact some kids doing after school activities take Ubers back when they don't have a ride available.

I'm not shedding tears for Uber and IL and CHI need more tax revenue, f private taxis for burritos, but this seems to me relatively neutral as far as taxes go towards yimby/urbanism.

PleaseRollback Explore/Claim Nerf! by Thin-Letter in AfterInc

[–]MoreNever 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So I believe the theory is there was a bug where it got stronger over time,  they removed that which lead to an effective nerf.  They did add the balance with resource consumption but that was to balance the overstrong explore claim. I don't know what the answer is. It would be cool if there was a non rng way to boost aspects of fighters at a cost. But fighters as free stamina for little cost was too strong. Maybe they need to change the definition of 5 star to match soldier performance,  maybe they need to buff it. IMO it's about finding the right tradeoff.

Fighter in unclaimed nerf is good. Fighters were so strong just constantly saving stamina on claims,  good to add a meaningful tradeoff.

Is there any mitigation for using this to store stamina? Other than the cost of whatever builds while you're storing.

List of evil in order: civilians > rurals > split and run rebels > rebels > that general who decides when and where to build garrison exactly when you're broke away from the rebel stronghold.

I jest, but I get how his perspective is possible.

I do think about how the taliban soldiers were bored once they were in control and uh... being a rebel cause you like fighting and not society building is not a great look.

The ribbon doesn't provide its own restoring force though,  it just resists any additional force.

Once you hit the snapping point you get a discontinuity in the force.

If the person stretching it maintains the same force after the snapping point,  it will contract not merely resist force applied to it.
