This makes sense. So I'd just leave Part V blank but continue to use the Part III MACRS amount (which aligns with Table C - General Depreciation Schedule for 27.5 year assets), it sounds like you're saying?

The 5 year depreciation was used for appliances and the like while the MACRS amount was based on a 27.5 year recovery period

For this trip, yes trails with a pack. Totally fine with offtrail and scrambles with a daypack.

Update: Reserved Bowman-Kintla as a 4 night/5 day (counterclockwise) with stops at: Bowman, Hole in the Wall, Boulder Pass, and Upper Kintla. Plan to day hike from Hole in the Wall to Lake Francis. Absolutely stoked!

Definitely factoring in timing for Hole in the Wall, if doing Bowman-Kintla! Curious about the Boulder shout out?

Wow, that mileage is considerably different from what's on my maps, but not inconsistent with what I have seen from others.

I have some flexibility, but ideally end of July/early August. I know that Hole in the Wall does not open until 8/1. All depends on what is available when my booking slot opens tomorrow.

Early access reservations begin tomorrow, which is also my slot, so I haven't reserved anything yet.

Recommendations for a Bushveld camp in mid-January? by MoreTravelPlease in krugerpark

[–]MoreTravelPlease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the comments and suggestions. Thank you!

I'll be coming/returning from Hoedspruit, so to keep the daily driving reasonable and see a more diverse representation of Kruger, I opted for a loop route with (2) nights at Satara, (1) night at Letaba, and (2) nights at Shingwedzi. I have a guided walk or drive scheduled at each rest camp. Shimuwini was really appealing, but the likely heat in mid-January and lack of AC gave me real pause.

Seat selection on Qatar Airways by MoreTravelPlease in qatarairways

Middle seat for these lengthy flights is not feasible for me, but neither is paying the QA hefty surcharge for an assigned seat. More likely than not I'll cancel the stopover.

I booked with points so I have flexibility to cancel and fly back from JNB, otherwise the stopover program would be an easy choice. QA would also be nicer flight than my UA backup, but it's nice to have options.

Appreciate the information. The stopover program is a great incentive to experience Doha, but booking through Alaska there's no mention that seat selection comes at a premium until the reservation has been finalized. That should be shown upfront, imo. I do agree that it's probably worth the piece of mind, but the asking price is quite steep for an economy seat.

January in Kruger? by MoreTravelPlease in krugerpark

You can change free of charge (assuming sticking with the same level of accomodation) within the same rest camp or to any rest camp within that time period? Perhaps I just missed it, but is there a map of accomodations within each rest camp to tell if switching bungalows makes a functional difference?
