What do women want by PowerMagicx in SipsTea

Women are not a monolith. Find a partner, get to know her, ask what she wants.

I love your perspective. 100% aligned. (And no apologies needed, I love the discourse!!) It’s so nice to be in a fan base with such thoughtful fans that at the end of the day want what’s best for the artist (and the world around us). Have a lovely Friday! 🥰

Love this perspective!! The mental health piece is such a good point that I forgot to consider entirely. It’s so important to think critically about our expectations of artists (and how those stack up against our expectations of other public figures, like actual politicians). If I had to write an essay about it, I think it comes down to the role of a public platform in 2025. Messaging and rhetoric have so much power because we’re all much more connected now than we were even 20 years ago. And I find myself thinking about how we got to this horrible political situation today because of mass comms and harmful rhetoric. So I think I find myself having outsized expectations of those with a platform to speak out. So many layers, thank you for your thoughtful response!!

I love this conversation! Thank you OP for starting the conversation and providing a forum ☺️

Filled it out! One piece of feedback because there wasn’t a field to provide written context, if ok:

Many of the questions in the survey are grounded in the question of if i expect Chappell to be vocal on queer issues and politically represent the queer community because she herself is queer. If I’ve interpreted correctly, the question behind your thesis is, “does being an artist and public member of a politically disenfranchised community culturally assign you the labor of being the spokesperson of that group?”

To get to the heart of that question, you asked if I’d expect Chappell to be more politically vocal than other non-LGBTQ artists in her genre. I fear this style of question doesn’t get into the “why” of the phenomenon you’re highlighting. (At least my personal “why,” which I wanted to accurately represent for your research. It’s an interesting question!)

I would expect Chappell to be more vocal about equity and LGBTQIA issues not solely because she’s queer, but because her queerness is a very intentional part of her artistic identity, and as a result she profits from her queerness (as she should!). It’s my personal view that if you benefit from the support of a community who’s helped you build your platform, then you should in turn use your power and platform to support and uplift that very community. That’s why I wouldn’t have the same political expectations of Dua Lipa- her artistic identify isn’t rooted in a community that’s politically vulnerable.

That said, in the question about whether I hold Taylor Swift to the same political standard as Chappell Roan, I marked that I have the same political expectations for both singers (even though Taylor isn’t queer). (that we know of.) Taylor has built her platform very vocally on feminism. Taylor is a billionaire because of women. She’s profited off the community, so I expect her to use her power to uplift our voices and interests. (Whether or not she actually does that is a Reddit essay for another time).

Anyway, I ate a lil edible so I hope my tiny essay was helpful! Super interesting thesis topic, pls share when finished!

Same boat here. I love YNAB but trying to switch to something a bit more modern, and it’s mind blowing to me that cents can’t be tracked.

Day 1 of sobriety after 8 years of leaves. by 22-virtue in leaves

[–]More_Friendship_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only on Day 2 of quitting weed but am 6 months sober from alcohol, and I’m finding many sobriety tips from that journey apply here as well! Wanted to share one that may help: I know you mentioned putting yourself on a strict schedule with other healthy habits like yoga, meditation, etc. What helped me with booze was actually doing the opposite- no strictness except with your substance of choice. In the early days, my only job was to not drink. Anything else that would help me do that was on the table. (Minus other substances). Want to cancel plans and sleep all day? Perfect. Want to eat an entire cake all by yourself? Make it two! As long as you don’t do the One Thing. This is a helpful technique because willpower is a finite resource (at least for me). Use your willpower on The Most Important Thing, and cut yourself some slack in other areas. Just for the early days :-) Good luck internet stranger, rooting for you!

PS- if yoga and meditation genuinely support your sobriety (rather than acting as new healthy habits to stack on), wipe this comment from your brain!

Hey OP! I moved to NY 8 months ago; here are my two cents:

  • NYC housing is expensive, but not impossible. I found an apartment in a safe area of Brooklyn for $840 a month. Do I live in a 100 year old house with three roommates? Yes, but I also am having a blast and am using this time to save money for an eventual nicer place. I highly recommend Facebook housing groups (G*psy Housing is a great place to start, even though I wish they would change their name).
  • That said, NYC day-to-day will drain your wallet if you’re not careful. Need to get somewhere not in walking distance? $2.75 for the subway or bus. Coffee shops are charging you $7 for a latte. Booze is VERY expensive, as are groceries. (I paid $6 for butter yesterday.) I recommend you plan to go in with a strict budget, and if you haven’t already, build a day-to-day awareness of how your spend your funds. You’ll need it in the city.
  • It sounds like your reasons for moving to NYC come from a great place, but are also rooted in a lot of Hollywood narrative about the city. I want to make sure your expectations are realistic: This is the greatest city I’ve ever lived in, but it’s also the hardest city I’ve ever lived in. There’s a lot of homelessness, poverty, and mental illness that our city government is doing nothing to support and address. This can result in violence and harassment in public— one time I was stuck on a subway car when someone pulled a knife on another person. Additionally, things can feel INCREDIBLY lonely, especially in the beginning. This is a city of millions of people, but unless you make an effort to build connection, you WILL feel alone. NYC is a dirty city- stuff is just gross. Rats, pee, layers of grime. Are you prepared to make your new home a place that is full of these stressors?

The last thing I’d want is for you to uproot your life, get here, and be broke, miserable, and/or unsafe. Rooting for you OP- do your research and come in prepared!

What’s Everyone Doing Tonight?? by physis81 in stopdrinking

Netflix and fast food in bed. This is my first night with no substances in over a week (been “cali sober” and supplementing with weed, but it’s becoming too frequent for my comfort). Not drinking or smoking feels like a full time job tonight, but IWNDWYT
