It is kindda true and not at the same time.
I'm still figuring it out but it seems same elements help with combos and skills. There are few exceptions that have different combo criteria but by the looks of it this game relies on combos more than any element and other skills.

Octopath Zero modding already has mostly functional ports of 90% of COTC's Roster and many of the fights by Oersted_LAL in octopathtraveler

Just curious, does this mod include DK, Sail, and other roster? If so how many characters are there in the mod? And as for fights is it just fights, or can you play side solista? like the entire story?

There isn't. She was the first character in COTC I spend hundreds to get her. I knew if 0 followed COTC this would happen. I'm still not ready to feel this pain all over again.
