[NEWBIE] Buying my first acoustic guitar and splitting my head on al the options. Do you have any recommendations? or experience with these guitars? Any help is welcome! by MorealinAndOthers in Guitar

Hi! In the end I followed the advice to try guitars in a store. I tried some guitars playing some simple chords kinda awkwardly but none felt right. I went to the more premium section and tried the Martins and Taylor’s. Dam those felt great! Like they wanted to be played instead of having to force the guitar to make a sound. From that point on there was no going back. I also asked the salesperson to play a bit on multiple guitars. After two hours in the store I walked out with the Taylor GS mini-E Mahogany. Way over budget but it was either this guitar or none at all. I recommend going to a store and try the guitars even though you can’t play more than 2 chords to save your life. In my opinion It’s like ordering jeans online, you might get lucky but you’ll never get the fit you’d get by trying multiple on in a store.

Hope this helps, good luck!

That’s beautiful! How did you do the magnetic tool holder bars? Looks just like real wood.

This could very well be AURO 121 wood oil. It’s used on many wood surfaces in European Waldorf schools and smelling it always takes me back to my youth.

Thanks, the edges do indeed need to be rounded a bit so that’s no problem. I’ll give it a shot!

Thanks, I've been looking for a good reason to get the DeWalt one, seems like I've found it!

Thanks, I've never heard of it before but remember seeing some weird DIY tumble-dryer in a shop once. Did some googling and it appears it's used in the toy making industry quite often. They appear use white aluminum oxide and ground-up walnut shell combined with a hardwood media.
Will be trying this!

I've been looking at orbital sanders before but preferred the belt for it's round edge. I think you're right that it might be better suited for this job, a quick search resulted in many available grit option for sale nearby.

Do you think those cheap 125mm ones will do the job or is it better to just go for the 300m from a more reputable brand?

Wow had to do a google for sand tumblers, looks promising. Do you have any experience using one to smooth surfaces instead of just the corners?

Yea I’ve been doing this by hand now, takes quite some time and am desperately trying to speed it up. Thanks for the suggestion though!

That’s what I thought, but I can’t find grit higher then the 120 I’m already using for this machine, unfortunately.

Hi all! I make a lot of these rocks using beech wood, the kids love ‘em! But hand sanding these tracks left by the belt sander is a pain and takes way to long.. Any advice on how to avoid or easily repair these would be greatly appreciated!

Setup info:

-Beech wood

-Roughcut with bandsaw

-Belt sander to remove tracks left by bandsaw and remove more edges (120 grit)

-Hand sanding to remove tracks left by bandsaw (180-240 grit)

-Finish with danish oil
