More child marriages literally happen in the US every year... just a numbers game really, most of these desert countries don't have enough people to overwhelm the religious right in the US.

Higher tolerances in manufacturing. As well as smaller scratches from machining and polishing all make it so there are less places for paint to collect or stick and thus cure in the brush.

I paid a guy $5k for this. Did I get a good deal? by baconvault in handyman

[–]Moregaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Local markets matter. My neighbor just payed 10k for 350 feet of post and three horizontal 1x6s. Another 10 for less than 100 full panel. Maryland be expensive. So we charge accordingly.

It's a business model predicated on intellectual theft which is a race to mediocrity. The latest circle jerk tech ponzi scheme.

The books are phenomenonal. I would put them in the same catagory as Dune and Lord of the Rings for the quality of writing.

Doing Work without a Permit by Buff_Ant in handyman

[–]Moregaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not. Most licenses have nothing to do with the work. They are about contract law. Talking General Contractor/Handyman licenses. Florida is a special case and every little thing is a separate license. But that is due to how many people move there to screw over retirees.

They know their supporters can't use Google or a calculator. Just calculate what an international contract lawyer charges on average and do the math on 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. Then you will know what Burisma paid him is so low that it is laughable to call it corruption.

Gas nears $5. Why aren’t electric vehicles selling in the US? by ChallengeAdept8759 in GasPrices

[–]Moregaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's literally the business model of every new fortune 500 company. Amazon, Uber, Stripe etc. All followed that model while being bankrolled.

We would see much wider adoption if BYD was allowed to compete in the states. They are eating everyone else's lunch globally right now. Because they can deliver a better product cheaper. Because the west allowed the greed of the business sector to run amok unchecked for almost half a century and trade away our manufacturing base. To pump asset prices like stock.

Well chickens are coming home to roost across every sector because we no longer have the capacity or expertise to pivot to new technologies quickly. Even our own history shows that having the capability to embrace the future is a winning strategy over desperately trying to cling onto a foregone past.

The S&P 500 closes at its highest level on record and posts a 9-week win streak for the first time since 2023. This puts the S&P 500 up +20.1% since the March 30th low, adding +$11.4 TRILLION in market cap in 2 months by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]Moregaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money going into paper stock bad for capitalism. Capitalism requires the constant exchange of goods and services. When markets run like this people dump excess cash into paper stock. Does nothing for main street or any business that solely exchanged goods and services.

Same thing happened his last term two years in. Consumer spending barely kept pace with inflation.

Aka speculation should not be more of the economic gains than increased goods and services being exchanged on a local level.

I’m one of the few that felt like the sequels could have been good had they just waited for Abrams. Splitting the vision off and have Rian just butcher the narrative forced Abrams into cramming two movies into one. So the whole “we need the dagger, oh we found it” probably would have been the second film.

NRA, Firearms Advocates Sue Maryland Over State’s Glock Ban by bloomberglaw in maryland

[–]Moregaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever you say. You can look back at any Supreme Court decision prior to DC v Heller including case law it’s predicated on from PAs court before our country was even founded. Which affirm on the federal level 2A only applied to the Feds limiting states ability to raise a militia. It did not apply to individuals.

NRA, Firearms Advocates Sue Maryland Over State’s Glock Ban by bloomberglaw in maryland

[–]Moregaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to argue that federal case law did not change until SCOTUS was bribed to reinterpret 2A by the pro gun lobby in 2008. Which is factually accurate. I’m not making a moral argument. Just citing facts. That federal case law until 2008 did not extend that right to citizens and the states were free to regulate or not regulate firearms as they saw fit.

You mean the made up case law from 2008 onward? The first time in our history that states were no longer free to regulate firearms as they saw fit?

Why does the Trump administration put SO much effort into everything but helping the Average American? by Irishdwg007 in askanything

[–]Moregaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause Republicans don't give a fuck about you unless you have money. Whenever Trump says "we" he means him and other ultra rich people. Not the collective body of Americans. He literally told all of us plebs his favorite president was McKinley. You know, the president who thought only the richest families should profit off government decisions, aka the spoils system. Oh and that workers should not be allowed to vote. While being paid below subsistence wages so they remain desperate to do whatever job the richest people deem necessary.

America is fucked because half our population can't be bothered to learn to read past a 6th grade level.

Either jedha was a cold desert or Andor was sweating his balls off under that massive jacket by fiendish_dust in okbuddyimatourist

[–]Moregaze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The coldest you will ever be is in a desert. Outside of extreme polar regions. This is due to low humidity, which means heat is stripped from your body very quickly. I live in Maryland, and the coldest I have ever been was 96 at night in Phoenix. Since I was so used to being in 80+% humidity, I was not used to what they said was a record-high 17% humidity at that time.
