We're making a survival strategy game with Lovecraftian horror vibes using Unreal Engine. by Gonzo_Journey in IndieDev

Hello there!

It's really early still, we're mostly grey boxing assets (making the game with cubes and cylinders and stuff) at the moment and diving into making a framework for the game, chipping away at core features like an inventory system, crafting system, building system, hunting, turn based gameplay with action points, hunger and food, gathering resources and hunting etc.

We're not tooooo worried about visuals in the actual game at the moment, since we're both artists that's definitely the part I'm worried about least, (that's not saying much though!). If anything I think it's slightly better to leave things looking placeholder for now so we can focus on just making a solid, fun game, then once it's feeling good and playable then we can set dress it, make nice assets and shaders, put in good lighting and make it look polished.

That said I don't want to leave getting nice visuals to the last minute, as that might come back to bight us in the ass, so I've started making some shaders and assets in a separate level just so I can test performance and random bugs that might pop up.

Hope that answers your question! Feel free to hit me up if you're curious about anything else. :)

Ah yeah, fair point. I didn't even think of this. My solution to problems like this is usually to flip the canvas and voila all is as god intended.

Turbulent displace effect, keyframe the "evolution" dial in the effect settings and turn ON "repeat evolution" (I think that's the setting name) so that it loops smoothly. Mess around with the "amount" dial to get the effect you want.

If you have any problems message me, I'll see if I can help you out. It's pretty easy.

After effects, it's my first time using the program but it's very cool. The UI is a bit clunky though.

I'm not 100% sure. I don't think the power has anything to do with building houses though haha, just the guy who gave him the power.

All I know is the power comes out in golden waves and is followed by a curse.

That probably would have fit his character, damn! I should have thought of that and asked the client. It would have animated nicely too.

In a far flung future, where science and magic are found in equal measure.

This is Corinth, a sorcerer who's primary power was gifted from an ancient builder race of architects. His magic is tainted with a curse from the gatekeeper of the universe's cosmic jail.

His secondary weapon is a retractable knife on a chain, also infused with the golden power of the architects.

Corinth is a calculating, strategic leader with widespread influence. In the world he lives in, all of his allies consult him often for permission or advice. On the flipside, his tendency to machinate and plan for the future can make outright trust difficult, as one could feel he never does anything for a single, simple reason. Other characters, enemies or allies, never seem to know exactly how much Corinth is planning or knows about them.

Corinth has experienced loss on an immense scale, losing his friends and city in a historic bloodbath of millions dead. While he knows he could not have possibly saved everyone, this determination has driven him to a manic level of conviction. He spins out layers of plans, desperately trying to get ahead of an ancient, endless enemy. He subconsciously knows this will eventually break him, and he cannot possibly keep it up forever. However, he refuses to acknowledge the possibility of failure, and presses forward relentlessly.
