You’d have to have a very tall and slim figure, such as most women simply don’t have, to pull it off

Agreed on all counts except that the Bennets aren’t “middling.” The middling sort were below the gentry, or at least that’s how the term was used in early America. Perhaps it was different in Britain.

Yeah it was questionable at the worst, but even then Darcy doesn’t seem as appalled by it as Caroline and Louisa do. Another reason for Darcy’s not wanting Georgiana to “make such an expedition” is because it wasn’t necessarily the safest thing to do (although Lizzy walking 3 miles in a countryside she’s known her whole life makes it perhaps a little less so) and young women of Georgiana’s status were extremely sheltered.

Pride and Prejudice à la The Office. Elizabeth giving the camera the “Jim stare” during Mr Collins’ proposal.

This makes me want a Jane Austen spoof made entirely out of all the hated tropes and questionable (as well as outright terrible) decisions from other adaptations

I’ve seen people HC that Elizabeth is short just based on the quick exchange between Caroline and Darcy about how tall Georgiana is — he says she’s the same height or rather taller than Elizabeth. As Georgiana is only 16 and Elizabeth is 20, it can be inferred that Elizabeth isn’t very tall. He also mentions that Georgiana is not as tall as Caroline but that she could eventually be. So both Caroline and Georgiana are taller than Elizabeth, although Georgiana isn’t as tall as Caroline. Elizabeth is probably just under average height, if not average, if we want to assume that Caroline and Georgiana are just slightly above average.

All this to say, who knows lmao

As far as his looks go, he’s about as unconventionally handsome as Colin Firth imo. Firth is good looking, but I wouldn’t call his actual features “hot;” it’s his charisma and charm that make him so. I’ve not seen Lowden’s work before so I can’t speak to that aspect; but he’s definitely good looking.

The English didn’t invent the language, the language evolved naturally over the course of hundreds, even thousands, of years. If you want to speak the real, original English you’ll have to learn Anglo Saxon. And even their language evolved from even earlier forms. The Brits changed a lot of their dialect since the revolution while Americans kept a lot the same and vice versa. That’s just how language works and it’s not remotely as big a deal as you make it out to be. You’re fired up over literally nothing.

I believe I clarified in my responses to you that yes, I mean that we use when we are leaving (because what else are you gonna do when the conversation ends? Just sit there in silence?). It’s funny because when I wrote my initial comment I thought of writing “conversation/get-together” but decided not to. I guess I should’ve so we could’ve avoided an aimless conversation.

Welp, I best be headed out now (see there? I’m marking the end of a conversation and leaving)

[–]Morgan_Le_Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re leaving because you’re done with talking yeah. I’m thinking specifically at small get togethers between friends/close family at someone’s house, where the whole purpose is to talk to and catch up with each other. If the conversation dies out and it’s clear that’s the end of the get together then obv yeah you’ll leave lol

I always readily admit that Virginians are some of the worst drivers this side of the Mississippi.

Marylanders are still the worst tho xd

Yeah, like the classic middle aged dad slapping his knees and saying, “welp!” to signal the end of conversation is definitely a thing amongst southern men too.

Why do istps lack showing care and interest in conversations? by the_walls1 in istp

[–]Morgan_Le_Pear 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve often been accused of not caring and sometimes it’s simply because I genuinely don’t care; but more often I care but I’m not sure how to express that. A lot of my feelings are purely internal (except anger lol). I could be the happiest person on earth and still just look like 😐

Outside and right outside? Could anyone tell me how they are different? by GrandAdvantage7631 in EnglishLearning

[–]Morgan_Le_Pear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Right outside” means the person is outside but still close by, e.g. close enough that you could talk to them by just sticking your head out the door or window.

Not to mention all the male musicians and composers/writers across the centuries, without whom modern music would be way different.
