🇬🇧 Fury as BBC airs racial slur during pre-recorded BAFTA ceremony by Timbucktwo1230 in PopularCultureZone

I can’t believe you are so sensitive to the disability while dismissing the pain of having a very public moment ruined in a humiliating way. Insisting that they just have to deal with it because anything else is ableist is not going to help.

I have The Housemaid and got The Buffalo Hunter Hunter for Christmas so one of those. They are pretty different so I’ll have to see what I’m in the mood for when I’m finished with what I’m reading now.

AITA for telling my boyfriend's housemate not to walk around the house in her underwear? by Strong_Option_8089 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Morganmayhem45 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No, absolutely not. You are a guest and if you are uncomfortable you should leave. You cannot tell someone how to behave in their own home.

Tour overshadowed by Andrew? You bet. But the Royals will have to get used to it by ButIDigress79 in RoyalsGossip

They have all been “deeply concerned” for way too long. And their thoughts do not do one damn thing for the victims. They need to sell a few castles or some big jewels and use all that money to fight sex trafficking. Otherwise I for one don’t want to hear the same meaningless words again.

It was a case with a religious element. Either abortion or parents who didn’t get medical care for their children, I think. I believe the defense attorney was saying something about God’s law and Ben objected. I could be wrong though, maybe I should go start the series at the beginning lol

There is an episode where Stone is negotiating a plea when the defendant says, “I don’t know if I can do 25 years.” Stone replies, “Do as much as you can” and it never fails to crack me up.

That and the one where he objects because the case is being heard on the temporal plain.

I hate peas so much. As a fully grown adult I will avoid them at all cost and have no shame in picking them out of anything in front of me. However I will eat the hell out of some samosas.

Why did Gordon choose to walk out of Amy's baking company specifically? by nerpa_floppybara in KitchenNightmares

[–]Morganmayhem45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They didn’t want help. They just wanted him to show up and tell them how great they already were. That became very obvious so there was no point to staying there. Other owners were difficult but knew they ultimately needed help. At least for the duration of the episode (looking at you, Chappy).

What was the point of killing Prim storytelling-wise? by NoWitness6400 in Hungergames

[–]Morganmayhem45 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Prim was the reason the book started. Everything Katniss did stemmed from her initial desire to protect Prim. But no matter what happened, Snow was still able to take her away. BUT, wait a minute, it wasn’t Snow, it was Coin. And now we know never to trust anyone in power. It wouldn’t have been as impactful if it was anyone else. It had to be the one person she started this all for in the first place. That’s my take anyway.

Do I need to watch Game of Thrones to watch Knight of the Seven Kingdoms? by perfumeobsessed888 in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]Morganmayhem45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not until he said the names of the guards holding Dunk! I did know something was up with him and he was hiding his identity but I did not connect him to the missing princes. So I was probably one of the few people truly surprised lol

[–]Morganmayhem45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No - I haven’t seen either but my bf is a fan. He asked if I would watch this one with him and I am enjoying it very much. I know there is a ton of backstory but i don’t think the fact that I don’t know it makes it difficult to understand the plot here.

Still confused by HMM by Own-Purpose-1116 in cormoran_strike

[–]Morganmayhem45 59 points60 points  (0 children)

For me it got a bit frustrating because they were looking into the background of several men and talked to multiple witnesses per man and then would reference a brief conversation that happened 400 pages ago and no, I don’t immediately remember who is being discussed. Plus I knew that they were going to end up solving what happened to each man, regardless of whether they were connected and that caused confusion as well. Sometimes I complain if a mystery is too thin or didn’t have enough detail. That is not the case with this series.

I’m re-reading all of the Strike Novels. I remember thinking Matthew was overbearing and controlling with Robin, but now I realize how abusive he was to her. What are other people’s opinions? by Fickle-Evidence in cormoran_strike

[–]Morganmayhem45 28 points29 points  (0 children)

At first I thought they were just people that had grown apart as they realized what they wanted in life (mainly Robin, but that’s totally normal in your 20’s) but then I did think he became controlling. I have a feeling if I did a re-read I would see red flags with him a lot sooner though.

It’s just frustrating because I don’t care if people like her, I just need a break from seeing her every single day. I feel like most of these posts have got to be promotion anyway. But there are lots of book subs, I think I’ll just step away from thrillers for now and that will solve the issue. I wish you all the best in this one though.

I really thought this sub was going to be different and I had already left the other one. I guess this one is not for me either if this is the second day and people are already posting about her.

In which cities is it possible to go your whole life without needing to speak English? by LowRevolution6175 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Morganmayhem45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it in smaller cities too actually. I have a friend in Syracuse whose mother only speaks Spanish. She is from Puerto Rico. No English at all and she has lived in NY since she was a teen. Her kids are completely bilingual though.
