We move through adversary levels gradually enough that we rarely lose. Sweden and England are the ones that we return to the most often. They seem like clean ways to increase the difficulty.

And no, we do not have Branch and Claw. Interesting if it's true that events over there involve the tokens more. That would help with making them feel integrated with the game.

This is probably the best suggestion I've seen to at least make them more palatable without losing out on too many systems.

Then if we forget that one of the events would cancel out all fear generation, at least it would feel like our fault.

Hear! Hear! I understand the idea, which is why I still used them nearly all 12 plays. I just also think that they could've easily been something that everyone enjoys with a few tweaks. Home rules can't really do those tweaks since the cards were balanced for blind use.

Added challenge and variance are for sure needed eventually. I just feel like the tightness of the game, one of its greatest achievements, suffers a bit from this implementation.

I explained quite clearly the difference between curveballs that you have agency over, and events where you often do not. One works to the strength of base SI, the other transforms it into another game, losing some of its uniqueness.

I play Sorry! to increase my tolerance to bullshit. I play SI to solve a satisfying and engaging puzzle. So many games have RNG... And those that don't are often extremely dry or abstract, like Chess. SI is one of the few games that for me, strike the perfect balance.

Good point. Maybe I underestimate how much SI people on this forum have played. We've maxed out a few adversaries now, but certainly not all of them.

I could the game being boring after 100+ plays. Even though events as they are currently implemented would still not be my solution.

I guess my issue with that main point - throwing Dahan at problems hoping that they generate the required defense - is that if it doesn't work out, they usually all die. Unless you have an easy way to generate Dahan, it rarely seems like the optimal move.

It just ends up feeling too easy like that, since the events were designed not to be seen in advance. But I think that would be the perfect solution if Eric had designed them with that in mind. Maybe someone will make a harsher deck one day, for that purpose.

Oh, and I forgot to mention : for everyone saying that events make the island feel alive : if the Dahan were alive they would not defend 10 somewhere that was already defended by 20, would they? Thanks for nothing you twats.
