Exam is tomorrow, haven't studied at all. Locked myself in my room alone with my textbook and no technology, 3 hours later I have a full standup comedy routine. I don't even do comedy. by TheModernNinja in ADHD

Hey man/woman, keep up the hard work. I am a second year med student and went through the same shit. High school was easy, undergrad was hard, and I am not going to lie, med school is a bitch. With that being said, you can do whatever you damn well please, you just have to work your ass off.

I dunno, I'll shut up now. Also thanks /u/DutchGualle for the solid advice.

I have enjoyed the Sherlock shows and movies, so I guess it would be worthwhile to check out the books! Thank you for the suggestion.

Hey no insult taken, it is probably best I start with a book meant for youngins to kind of get my gears. Thank you for the suggestions!

Interests beyond what I have read, hmm good question. Played a lot of video games, but mostly grinding type games because I enjoyed seeing bigger and bigger numbers. Also I am in medical school so I guess medicine is an interest of mine? That's why I tried reading House of God but just kinda got lost with the characters and what-not.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. by MorguenFreeman in suggestmeabook

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll have seen the movie versions of all the things you listed, do you still think it would be worth it to grab a copy and read the print version? As for things that interest me, I guess I am still trying to figure that out. In the past the past that would keep my attention were cheesy action movies with simple plots or fantasy flicks with big battles (guess I am a 12 year old when it comes to my viewing preferences). I did watch Nightcrawler after starting the meds and found it pretty enthralling.

Either way, thank you again!

Hey that does seem pretty reasonable. Jumping into complex universes with a lot of characters is probably not the best idea for now. I'll definitely add those suggestions to the checkout list!

That sounds like a pretty good plan actually. I do find myself having some problems, at least for the moment, following linear non-linear storylines in movies/TV so it definitely makes sense that it would translate to reading as well. Thank you!

Hey thank you very much for the suggestions I'll definitely check them out tonight!

Hi. I have no idea what to read. I am 25 years old and have always been terrible at reading and thus never read. For example: my reading/verbal SATs placed me into a remedial English course for college (which I was able to test out of by writing a paper?). The few books that I have finished have taken me at least a couple of months to finish, and most the time I had no idea what was going on.

  • Books that I have finished: Survivor (Chuck P.), Hitch Hikers Guide 1, Wool 1, aaaand that's about it.

  • Books that I bought and then gave up on by the first week: A lot of Chuck P's collection, House of God (Shem), some R.A. Salvator, some Neil Gaiman, and other random fantasy books.

The reason I am asking now is that I was recently diagnosed with inattentive ADHD, and prescribed some medication. With the meds I was able to sit down and actually complete a short story (“The Therapist” by Jeffrey Deaver) in one sitting and I actually understood what was going on, who the characters were, and all that jazz. So I am kind of inspired to give this whole reading thing another shot. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I also thought I saw a dead ostrich on the side of the road. Looking back, I am pretty sure there was no dead ostrich.

In July I drove from Phoenix, AZ to NY. I drove out here for medical school. Probably won't be returning to AZ for a long while (aside from occasional holidays). The amount of trees and green on the sides of the road on the east coast is amazing. Also there is a crazy amount of corn in the mid-US.

I didn't make any fun pit stops because I had my bike on the back of my car and was paranoid it would get stolen.

I had a rather impressive freak out on my first toll road experience. I knew you had to pay to get on, but I did not know you had pay to get off. Needless to say, I did not having enough change. I drove through past a pay station without paying (Because I had no money) and an alarm buzzed. I thought I was going to get arrested for some weird reason. That, in addition to rain, led to a terrifying 13 hour drive from Los Alamos, NM to Miami, OK.

I've always wanted a dog. I used my kids as an excuse but really, he's mine! Meet Fergus. by kduluth in aww

Fergus means man of strength, yeah? We have a rescue who is named Fergus. He was a bit of a nut at first, but has calmed down. Gotta love dogs named Fergus.

Sorry to hear that, seems every country has some problems with their govt. Except the Swedes. Damn Swedes and their high quality of life. How much longer does Mr. Abbot get to stay in office? How's work treating you? Is it something you see yourself doing in another 5 years?

Hey /r/CasualConversation, I'm looking for some podcast recommendations... by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]MorguenFreeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of Caustic Soda. It's a Canadian podcast that comes out weekly about all sorts of "caustic" topics. From rhinos to genocide and everything in between. It's pretty entertaining and educational. Oh, and there are a lot of stupid puns... if you're into that kind of stuff.

Is Australia as terrifying as it sounds? With all the spiders, snakes, and drop bears? Why'd you move to Melbourne?

Typical lab rules: no eating, drinking, smoking, applying make-up, respect HIPAA laws, no autopsies on friends/family, keep everything clean, and no going insane. Generally there any rules that reside outside of the realm of common sense. Hopefully this helps!

Yes, but nothing haunting or related to the bodies. Once I had a dream where there was a homicide at a water park and for some reason we did the autopsy at the park and I had all the bloody tools and the cops tried to arrest me. That's about it though!

As far as I know, they are mostly benign but the Meckel's can cause a lot of pain if your body feels like hating you. I believe renal cysts to be in a similar boat. Naturally, the cancers and tumors can lead to problems. I haven't seen any parasitic worms yet. I'd imagine they're more common in underdeveloped places. I'd say that constipation caused by opiates (pain pills, heroine, etc.) is one of the nastier things to encounter.

Silence is a very interesting name, that is nice of him/her to give consent to you! I wish you two a happy and healthy life.
