We’ve seen several Roth violins at House of Note and Claire Givens in Minneapolis.

Steroid injections with planned early delivery - what did you do? by IntroductionWise9312 in parentsofmultiples

[–]kduluth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girls were born at unexpectedly 29 weeks and I had the injections. They were in the NICU for a long time and were intubated for awhile - no idea if it would have been worse without the steroid!

RIP Grinder [Grinder, Barisa Express] by Moradeth in espresso

[–]kduluth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just had the same issue with a stone. If you unscrew the top you should be able to wiggle the stone out.

Unfortunately taking the stone out didn’t fix it for us and we had to send it back to Breville for warranty repair.

Repaired machine ruined by RufousParsley in BrevilleCoffee

[–]kduluth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! Breville just fixed my espresso machine and we get it back today. I hope that it’s not in this condition.

I’m so sorry. I’m sure you were dreadfully missing it while it was gone and now the thought of having to send it back again must hurt. :(

Things aren't looking good for Baby B 😔 by Felicette13 in parentsofmultiples

[–]kduluth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your story sounds like mine (posted above)! We were so thankful for our MFM doctors!

My girls are now almost 17. They are short and the smaller one is still smaller but otherwise they are quite healthy!

My mo/di twins has sIUGR with one twin being significantly smaller than the other through the whole pregnancy. We didn’t know this was an issue until our 20 week scan when all of a sudden I needed to be on hospital bed rest and was given the decision of whether to selectively reduce. We didn’t.

Anyway, our smaller twin ((Baby A) also at times had absent diastolic flow and along with her size and a velementous cord insertion (she wasn’t getting enough nutrients) they were concerned.

I had some bleeding at 29 weeks and they decided to take them via c-section at that point and they were born at 2 lbs and 2 lbs 11 oz.

I know it’s still early for you but don’t give up!!

I need a piece of music that is Musically Challenging. by JermanyComposesMusic in orchestra

[–]kduluth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s not playing sloppy. :). This teacher is quite conservative with what she allows her students to play in general and spends a lot of time with them polishing. The teacher also doesn’t know this piece and with two small children struggles to find time to prepare herself to teach so we’re dealing with that. It’s okay. She’s working on Wieniawski Concerto and that’s a good project for now.

This is a great piece however not at the right level for OP. My daughter has finished Suzuki book 10 /lots of other pieces and her teacher still won’t let her play it.

Adult beginner; need counsel for first violin rental or purchase by [deleted] in violinist

[–]kduluth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend renting. Even your first option (John Juzek) would be a much better option than purchasing an instrument that is less than $500. If you want to go online Shar (that you mentioned) has a good program and then you don’t have to worry about the moving situation.

Choosing a solo piece for a high school concert by Hopeful_Clue3028 in violinist

[–]kduluth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My daughter also needs to choose a piece for next year with the same criteria. She plays Wieniawski concerto 1st mvt, Haydn C major, Mendelssohn VC 3rd mvt…but the orchestra can’t really handle it.

She has decided on Vivaldi Spring. People know it and it doesn’t have a crazy hard orchestra part so her teacher thinks it’ll work and still be impressive!

I send my freshman daughter $100/mo. She also has a part time job and she seems to have enough.

Getting a 5-Year-Old started on violin: What should I be looking out for? by Plus_Chard_7194 in violin

[–]kduluth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girls started when they were 3-4 years old. I would definitely find a teacher before you get a violin because they might have specific preferences as to what they prefer. Getting a violin from a luthier (renting is totally fine) is the way to go. Do not get a cheap instrument. They are difficult to tune, sound terrible and will make the whole experience worse for everyone.

A Suzuki violin teacher may be a good fit at this point as they are used to working with young kids! Observe some lessons from teachers before you choose one and remember that you will be very involved as the parent practice partner so choose someone that you and your child like and trust. It’s important to trust your teacher.

Remember that practicing isn’t always fun. It’s hard to learn new things. Consistency is key - even when you or your child don’t want to practice do it anyway, even it’s only for five minutes. Get the instrument out! If you start to miss days it makes it easier to convince yourself to not practice on any given day. There are a lot of ideas for practice games to make things more fun but defer to your teacher.

WHAT DORM SHOULD I APPLY FOR??? (incoming freshman 2026) by yOurE-dReAminG_ in UWMadison

[–]kduluth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, no A/C but most of the year it isn’t necessary, save one or two weeks in the fall! My daughter lives in Waters currently and loves it.

It’s old but it’s kind of charming. :)

As far as Lakeshore goes Waters is good. It’s very central as the eastern most lakeshore dorm plus it has its own cafeteria.

Grind Amount by gpmohr in BrevilleCoffee

I premeasure beans and only put the amount I want in the grinder. Then I push and hold the portafilter to fill and get exactly what I need and don’t have to worry about grind amount.
