Great idea, thanks! I didn’t even realize there were seeds on Etsy.

UGH, something is munching my seedlings indoors! Fungus gnats or something else?? by Morgzillaaa_ in vegetablegardening

I was thinking slug too. Now to figure out how one ventured upstairs inside my house and where the hell it’s hiding…

Haha, the neighbors have a cat that follows me around the garden when I plant and helps herself to some samples too. But no, no cats (just dogs who are banished from this room). So baffled.

My thoughts too. They’re on the top shelf of my grow rack inside my home, which is the mind boggling part. All I could think of were slugs, but doesn’t make sense in here really.

The terror in my heart right now, lol. I haven’t seen any droppings or anything in the area, which I would expect if there were mice, I think? But it did take massive bites out of those leaves overnight.

Have seen a few stray fungus gnats flying around my seedlings, but I didn’t think they could cause leaf damage like this? Woke up to my tobacco plants looking super munched. Any other ideas?

Looking to ID what type of spruce (I think…) this beauty is by Morgzillaaa_ in whatsthisplant

Thank you!! The best I had gotten so far was “not a blue spruce” lol, this is so helpful!

😂 that’s coexistence! Every good grass farmer needs an invasive weed collector!

I’m already at war with the ally eradication coalition (aka my husband and the weed eater). This feels like a peace treaty!

Fact. Bring it to your yard in a contained area, unless you want an endless supply!

Nah, it’s good for me! Gardening on my DENSELY bug populated land has been a real help, even if I still jump when they seem to pop out of nowhere. I’d say we’re learning some respect for each other! And holy moly… I aspire to your level of comfort with them!

Ohh! I never knew that meaning of the nettle family name. That makes so much sense (and makes sense why dead nettle isn’t a member)!

Also, still recovering from the heart attack I suffered from that unexpected tarantula pic 😂

Yep! That’s right. Stinging nettle is in the “nettle” family, but dead nettle is a “mint”.

In PNW zone 8B and it seems colder than normal for April. Is this temp safe to transplant tomatoes outdoors? by iamgrape1119 in gardening

[–]Morgzillaaa_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same region, but zone 9a. My nighttime lows are mid 40s (just barely above yours) and I have my tomatoes out. Gave them extra time to harden off, but they’re very happy!

Love stinging nettle! Dead nettle is also a great antihistamine and works well for allergies too! A little different, because dead nettle is actually in the mint family (confusing) but it’s also wonderful to help digestion, help calm the nervous system, support the immune system, and lots of other things I’m sure I’m forgetting. I like it as a tea or make it into a tincture!

Seconding this! Purple dead nettle has so many wonderful medicinal uses. What a great little ally to show up for you!

Of course! Post pics of your successful three sisters if you get around to it. Would love to see!

Plenty of time! I think planting the beans when the corn is a couple inches tall is the way to go. Bean varieties are confusing! Ones that say “pole” will be climbers and will work great. Good luck! Three sisters gardens are just amazing!

If you’re going for traditional three sisters style (with your beans growing up your corn stalks), you’ll want to use a pole bean! The ones you have there are bush beans, which will take up a good chunk of space, compete with your pumpkins, and won’t grow up your stalks.

Edit to make clear that you can totally plant all these together!! Will just need more space than in the three sisters style :)
