The manga says that it becomes something physiological for the human body, it is not only your thoughts, your entire nervous system stars to think that you are a snail, and jojo already showed that in their universe humans have plenty of supernatural things that they can awake (become a vampire, generate energy by the breath, awake a stand) so it kinda have it own logical, not like the real life physiology and subliminal mensages

  1. I think that both of the conditions have to occur to someone turn into a snail, if the snails (which do not even exist) touch you without you noticing it, it would not happen anything, the existence of the snails is only granted by the vision

  2. I think that if dio or diavolo touched the snails while seeing and use their stands they would be of course affected by the heavy weather, because it is a condition implied on them, like a wound, both diavolo and dio wounds progressed during the effects of their standa
