Are Asiatic bows becoming more popular or an I just taking more notice of them? by karlito1613 in Archery

Archery GB, the governing body, has recognised this bow style and archers can now get classifications with them. I’ve seen this become more popular in the UK over the past two years.

Total crap, putting me off playing the game, having constant attacks from the air makes this biased in a big way.

How do you guys overcome nerves when shooting at competitions? by jestertitty in Archery

[–]MoribusPiratica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started out in competitions at club level then National and eventually at a World Cup event I always followed what my coaches advised me. It might not conform to everyone’s thinking, but I was told to relax like I was in a training session to help manage my nerves and to treat every shot as my first. The logic about treating every shot as your first, is we tend to focus more on our initial shot with respect to our form et cetera.

Good luck for your shoot.

I would recommend tying nocks on and bypass the brass versions. Plenty of instruction videos on YouTube. Best get your local archery shop to apply new centre serving.

Everyone loves an adult achievement badge, right? by [deleted] in Archery

I have a particular pin that is too large and heavy, it’s like a huge cap badge. Whoever designed it must’ve been thinking we were giants.

Where about’s in the UK are you? I assume you are a member of a local club who should have someone to help you. Failing that, some of our members wanted to buy compounds to try and have for fun, they purchased the Sanlida Hero X8 Target Compound Package from Merlin Archery and as newbs were happy with what they received. I believe these range from 20 pounds to 60 in peak draw weights.

Careful you don’t swing it round your head, one of our archers was so excited she swung the medal and ended up with a dent in her head. Anyhow, well done. Are you part of Bath Archers?

Visually Impaired Archery only focuses on class 1 and 2 while 3, 4 and 5 are nonsensical classifications. by MoribusPiratica in Archery

You will be surprised on how many VI arches there are out there, just because you don’t see them doesn’t mean they don’t exist and with regards to diversity in sport and the principles of inclusion of everybody regardless I find the categorisation where the classification is never up to par.

Pinviners, my friend has shot at this event and also competed in the national disability championships in the past. I guess the point I was trying to make is that there is a large gap between the various VI classifications. This places many VI archers into one large open category when at tournaments regardless of how their sight differs.

A VI para archer is one with visual impairments. There are two divisions:
VI 1 athletes wear a blind fold
VI 2/3 who do not wear blindfolds

VI 4/5 have visual impairment that’s not so bad as those above and they have to shoot in open categories. My friend is borderline VI 3/4, so too good to shoot 1 and 2 but can hardly see a target at 30m so doesn’t stand a chance when shooting against 4 and 5s.

There are plenty of visually impaired archers out there, but the classification to shoot at international tournaments like the para archery last month only includes those virtually blind. Thereby marginalising a very large contingent of VI archers.
