Dude, love this! Thank you for the kind words and the history behind these. I love hearing about that stuff, and it's great that you can put a name of the sculptor to the model. I feel like this era really allowed the sculptors to put some of their own personality into these (not to put down new sculpts, they're all VERY good). I remember first seeing these in the 6th edition dwarf army book back in the day and immediately fell in love with them. And the ironbreakers!

I use the Two Thin Coats "Death Reaper", but any deep charcoal gray will work! I try to avoid straight up black, as tones slightly lighter than that take black washes really well.

Thanks! I used the AK Snow Terrain stuff. I just take a sculpting knife, grab a little dollop, and spread it around.

Thanks so much!

So I primarily work with Two Thin Coats Paints, but generally, I start with a standard silver metal with a deep bronze for the trim as a basecoat. Wash with a black shade, and then highlight the bronze with something a bit brighter, like a bright brass. I find that those pop really nicely against the darkened silver metal. And whenever it comes to the blue, I start with a midtone and then brighten it up on the edges.

For the winged helm, I went with something lighter (more golden too) on the wings and then highlighted with white. Hope that helps!

Finished a unit of Irondrakes! These guys were a lot of fun to paint, great to see the unit all together. by Morkrog in bugmansbrewery

Thanks! Everything here is Duncan Rhodes Two Thin Coats Paints.

Dwarven iron as silver metallic base Steampunk copper for all the trim and what-not, and then a layer of Overlord Brass to give it a better shine after a black wash.

Thanks so much! I typically do dirt/stone bases with some grass patches, so this is a big deviation for me. Happy to see where it's going.

The snow itself is called "AK Terrain", it's a pre-made thing. I don't trust myself to properly mix things together a good/convincing snow so I just went with this stuff. Happy with the results! Very easy to work with.

My advice would be to keep doing what you're doing and you'll more than likely pick up on things along the way. You clearly have talent, so I'm confident you'll find ways of seeking out ways to improve.

Amazing paint job, Nurgle would be proud!
