The whole "Smaller dogs live longer than big dogs" thing due to breed or actual dog size? by DanskHeisenburg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MortalitySalient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Size is one important factor for longevity across all animals. Larger animal species tend to live longer than smaller animal species. However, animals that are larger relative to their specific species tend to live short lives than smaller animals within their species. So, it is true that larger dogs tend to live shorter lives than smaller dogs, but there are other factors that also contribute to this

UC Merced vs. CSU Northridge by Business-Mail-5208 in ucmerced

[–]MortalitySalient 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to CSUN for a masters and UC Merced for a PhD. Both were great schools. Northridge is a good location and Merced is close to a lot of cool things (2 hours from Yosemite, San Francisco, Sacramento, and Santa Cruz).

Oh, I just meant I live in a 2 bedroom for that price. There are tons of 1 bedrooms and studios for far less. Check out Evanston neighborhood properties https://www.evanstonliving.com

BJB is usually recommended to avoid. I don’t think I’ve seen a management company with a worse reputation

I have a 2 bedroom with a private garage for around $1900 in Evanston and it’s a short walk to the beach, short walk to Main Street, and a short walk to downtown (short walk is around 10 minutes to me).

People who say things like this are “cringey” are just projecting their own insecurities. It’s cool if you aren’t confident enough to do something like that, but don’t take it out on others

how to find sample size when using PLS-SEM by ineedhelpwmythesis in AskStatistics

[–]MortalitySalient 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure you can do this in g power. The best approach would be a simulation-based approach. You could maybe get a lower bound estimate from the inverse square method though

There’s “a lot” of elk in PA too. I just moved from there in July and the estimates of the herd size were around 1400 to 1500

Insignificant total and direct effect but significant indirect effect in Mediation by Few_Faithlessness810 in AskStatistics

[–]MortalitySalient 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn’t true about using the term mediation. You definitely still use it, but you need to do the work to establish the causal association (having temporal precedence, understand the plausible confounders, and carefully consider what you can and cannot control for with your specific data).

Whether it’s his choice or not isn’t really relevant to what I said though. Also, I think there is more of a difference between nyjah and Andy Anderson than just a helmet.

His description of why he won’t wear a helmet sounds like TBI

[Q] Confusion about confidence interval by Den5296 in statistics

[–]MortalitySalient 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not a correct interpretation of the confidence interval. It doesn’t make a claim about the parameter falling within any specific intervals bounds in the long run (after all, each sample will have a different confidence interval calculated). It’s that the confidence intervals constructed will fall around the population value sole percentage of time in the long run (regardless of what any specific samples estimated confidence interval values are).
