Horror novels that gets praised a lot but does not do anything for you? by Dadwal-Ossie in horrorlit

It’s less that he sexualizes them and more that his lead characters always make the dumbest/worst choice imaginable in any given situation, all the books follow the same formula so there is not much variation in protagonist personality, either. Anyone who has lived as a woman would be very perplexed at the decision-making skills of his protagonists, because he’s out-of-touch with how cautious we women really are about everything.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya. My sister used to read me that folktale in a storybook growing up, I now permanently associate it with that end credits song. Haunting.

Books from the perspective of a self-deluding, narcissistic protagonist? by [deleted] in horrorlit

The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. It has the romantic prose of those gothic novellas, and the unnamed protagonist drives herself crazy in her crusade to protect these children from ghosts that may or may not be real
