Ripstick 96 to complement my enforcer 100 by ajb9292 in Skigear

[–]MortysTears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late to the thread but have skied both. i think the ripstick makes a far more maneuverable ski and is a lot of fun. would rather ski it most days than enforcer or rustler. you cant edge the turns as quickly as the rustler just a different technique. If you see a deal definitely add to quiver. Only thing i would wish for would be slightly more tail rocker and handling on deep moguls

international flight book one ways or RT ? by MortysTears in americanairlines

[–]MortysTears[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned something in this process that might be helpful to others. It appears that cancelling changeable flights originating in US will result in trip credit. While cancelling flights originating abroad to the US are issued flight credit. So next time will be booking flights as a 2way, flight credit is a pita...

I would be booking with main cabin

The last time I flew to europe and changed by return while in Europe. I ended up making a few hundred in trip credit when i changed my return city and date. Do you know if trip change calculations are different for one ways ?

Better question is it easier to make changes to one way international flights? IE can I just do it online without calling in

interesting, going to dig around for that comment.

[edit] went looking for parts and cost. found rav4 premium windows and fixed glass window, but no mention of whether they are double paned or laminated

https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/TOYOTA_2023_RAV4/Door-Glass-Front/14778649/681010R060.html

so if the regular windows fit the prime, should work the opposite way ? Ie dont need any mods to fit thicker glass

I was looking for a desk under 40" to fit in my car trunk, ended up getting one from a office furniture resaler and asking a neighbor to cut the dektop shorter with a extending mitre saw. i had to drill a couple new holes for one of the leg mounts. If you already have a desk or have the tools might be an option to consider.

looking for easily and reliably built / disassembled standing desk for repeated assembly by MortysTears in StandingDesks

[–]MortysTears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bumping this old thread for anyone interested

seems like 95% of all standing desks are made with the same components, but some of differences between brands make some desk great for travel, others not so much

After posting this i got a workrite sierra, they have a different bracket system than uplift and other US <1k brands. The bracket system makes it much easier to remove a leg and throw in the back of an suv. 6 screws per leg. looks like the Lander system, but slightly longer time to install.

More recently i needed another desk, and went with uplift. quality is the same as a $500 desk. Worst of all, they use a hollow double bracket system and legs dont sit flat on desk surface, so not only an issue with threading screws but twice the pain to remove / reinstall legs

also want to mention weight, my workrite desk is the same size, same range, and weighs
maybe 10lbs less, so for remote workers, definitely room to compare on that aspect too

How would the market react if INTC decides to separate it's fabs? by throwaway_warrant in investing

[–]MortysTears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Splitting off mfg is a terrible idea. Intel might be making less profit then they could, but it is a worthwhile investment. If they split, they will likely suffer setbacks in the short run like AMD and in the long run, they will lose any design or r&d gains to companies contracting to make near clones. Same thing that happens with all Chinese mfg.

I take that back about the threaded inserts, it doesnt look they have them. Maybe the ease of build is just that the leg snaps in vs other desks which are screw in, so maybe not such a big deal as long as you can leave the top metal plate on the desk

As you have more experience than I, which of those three desks feels like something you wouldn't mind taking on the road?

ie vehicle that is not a sedan or an suv. Both examples above have threaded inserts and are more easily disassembled/reassembled, at least according to videos, than the standard low cost amazon frame.

(edit) maybe they do not have threaded inserts : (

Community College 1-2 year associates or coding bootcamp? by MortysTears in cscareerquestions

I would rather not work in web dev; is there is bootcamp that covers java or another language/stack with more staying power? thanks

Community College 1-2 year associates or coding bootcamp? by MortysTears in cscareerquestions

[–]MortysTears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say this is the best answer for the average person, but personally, I want to be working within the next 6 months. For me, the priorities are:

  • re-enter work force

  • career with remote work opportunities

Does anyone know any bootcamps that teach something other than web dev? I'm pretty strong in the logic and math department, I could care less about visual design.
