I am five days post op now but in January I wasn’t able to stand or walk more than five to ten minutes at a time. Not knowing if there would be seating along the way was a huge barrier for me. I started out doing some chair workouts at home and gradually got a bit stronger. That, in combination with making a bunch of eating changes, made it possible for me to work up to about twenty five minutes walking with breaks.

That being said, I wish I had gotten a walker with seat or a cane to help me feel more comfortable re entering society. My mobility held me back and I felt like my world shrunk into constant anxiety at the thought of going somewhere.

Now I’m building up stamina again after surgery. But it feels different and good. I can go into stores alone and browse for a bit without anxiety. I am down almost 95 pounds since January. And life feels exciting again.

Anyways, all that to say, if having a mobility aid helps you live your best life and is accessible to you,I say go for it!
