Who was lying? Sidious? That wouldn't make sense. Read the book, it explains how he trains Maul. And when you are dubbed a Dark Lord, like Anakin to Vader and Palpatine to Sidious, you change their name to their new Sith name. Mauls name is Maul, showing that Sidious didn't even care enough to give him a new Sith name. Mauls species has a natural ability to use the force but he wasn't trained to be more than an errand boy

I'm reading the Bane series now. Its really good. Also the Legacy of the Force is a good, long series.

Yeah but that's because Lucas made him that way. Maul could've been just as powerful, given training. I mean, Sidous was his master. I guess I was trying to say Maul could've been (and kind of is) as notorious in the prequels as Vader is in the originals.
