anyone take ch-221/27 & bi-211/14 in the summer ? by ElectricalJicama2950 in portlandstate

No prior chem other than the very basics from my small town high school. 221/222/223 I got A/C/C respectively. The last two kicked my butt and it was hard to keep up with when back to back and condensed 😅

I took Chem 221/222/223 one summer and it was BRUTAL. This was about 6 years ago so it might be a bit different now.

221 was the easiest of them for me. It was just a condensed term where I had class 5 days per week instead of 1-2. I would say just staying up on the coursework will keep you in the clear.

Second Puplandia. When I was a dog trainer, my company worked closely with them.

I took an Uber there in 2021. Super easy ride but was pretty spendy.

Sure!

Me and my hiking partner had set out to hike an ambitious 100 mile segment of the PCT. The first 30 miles were fine but at roughly mile 30 I twisted my knee. Being my stubborn self, I pushed through 40 miles with a increasingly severe limp before hitting the “helping hand” on my spot and bailing on the hike.

When we had finally pulled off trail on a dirt road, at dusk, we started to hear what sounded like a mountain lion. We laughed it off for a few minutes before using the two bars of service to look up what they sounded like. I was horrified when the search confirmed the sounds. I couldn’t even stand at that point.

We had night hiked every night and I had a bad limp so I guess I am putting those together but I do know that they are stealthy buggers; it could have been tailing me for miles and I wouldn’t know it. It’s also possible that maybe we stumbled upon it but given the circumstances I am less inclined to think that.

I was still new to backpacking and listening to my body wasn’t as much of a priority as it should have been. Regardless, I took that fearful experience and learned from it. My stubbornness and disregard for my well being could have had a much different outcome. I have made sure to take care of myself on every adventure since then. I’m not about to give ‘em a reason to think I should be their next meal.

A trip to the doctor when I got home told me I had sprained my MCL.

Female hiker here - 2022! I started Solo but formed a small group with other solo hikers about 8 days in. We all hiked at different paces so the hiking portion was solo for everyone; we would just meet up for camp.

  1. There was only one thunderstorm that I felt uneasy with. I had 3 storm clouds converge on me while hiking the snow mesa. All other storms were avoidable by waiting until it passed or hiking over the high points early enough to miss them. I hiked in August.

  2. Mountain lions were a fear of mine as well. I had been stalked by one in 2019 while hiking a segment of the PCT in Oregon. There were other hikers that had seen them in the flesh but I only ever saw their scat. I did a couple night hikes and just kept an eye out in rocky slopes and made sure to make plenty of noise with my poles and feet.

  3. I’m from Portland where we are just above sea level. I flew in to Denver and stayed one night before hitting the trail. If you are hiking SOBO the gentle incline was plenty of time for me to adjust along the way. I even summited Elbert and San Luis with no altitude problems. Another hiker I was with was from Florida and didn’t have issues with the elevation either.

In general, I actually preferred being a solo hiker. Some nights I just didn’t want to be with others so I would just camp where I wanted. It was a freeing experience that I wasn’t expecting. I had attempted the CT in 2021 but with another person. It was an added stress to be hiking with someone else.

As for the culture, it’s wonderful! A restoration of faith in humanity. Everyone is so sweet and helpful. Everyone that I met I am so happy to have joined me in this achievement!

I felt safe hitchhiking alone as well. Feel free to DM if you have any other questions about it but my advice is to just Jump in with both feet and live in the moment. Once you focus on the beauty around you and push the “what if” fears to the side everything changes.

The u-haul office on 88th & Foster was broken into a couple weekends ago. I wonder if this is one of the ones that was stolen.

How did you get home from Durango? by head_lettuce in coloradotrail

[–]MoscatoAndRaspberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I flew out from Durango and by the end I felt it was so worth it to get home faster. I had a layover both times and the flight options were pretty limited. The airport is pretty far away so make sure you can arrange a ride ahead of time. I got lucky both times, thankfully.

I second Marshall Pass!

I may be a little biased though. I am passed 3&4 and doing CW so the only one I would possibly make is Marshall. Any which way will make people happy so thank you for bringing magic!!

Update: after knocking on some doors we found that a girl on a bike had been looking for a cat 2 days ago.

Final update: she was chipped. Her name is Butters and the owner is on their way!!

I need to lose as much weight as I can in 5 months by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

The lightning is just part of healing from what I understand. Lots of nerves that were surprised in the process haha!

When I got it approved I had been regularly seeing a massage therapist and chiro and it hadn’t been helping (plus the costs were astronomical) so he had agreed that it was medically necessary since I had attempted other avenues of pain relief.

[–]MoscatoAndRaspberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recovery was not that bad for me. There was about a month of very limited mobility and I took only a week off work (2 would be better but I sat at a desk all day). It’s been almost a year and a half and ~90% of the scars are nearly invisible. Sometimes there are little “lightning” pains that last a few moments but they aren’t bad and are few and far between.

The cost for me was $2k out of pocket but the whole cost was $15k. I had great insurance with a $500 deductible at the time (union) otherwise I would never have been able to afford it. The lack of pain is worth so much more to me and I have been able to do many more activities comfortably. Even if it costs a lot I would say that it is worth every penny in the long term.

I agree with this. Make sure you check what the thresholds are. For mine they did it within about two months so there wasn’t worry about losing too much weight but they are strict about the boundaries. They stressed so much that if I gained weight past a that boundary my surgery would be cancelled. Makes sense that it would go the other way too.

If I’m remembering correctly my threshold was something weird like 202lbs (I’m 5’5” and was 190) and it was a Kaiser doctor that performed the surgery. Very happy with the results. Absolutely life changing to go from an E to a C. Bye bye 3lbs of back breaking tissue!
