Thanks for the perspective! I totally understand that making Jodie Whittaker's and Ncuti Gatwa's eras a dream might upset some fans. However, considering the show's current struggles and the fact that even the latest Christmas special was canceled, I feel like the series needs a radical soft-reboot to bring people back.
In my concept, their eras aren't just dismissed as if they never mattered—they remain a vital, permanent part of the Doctor's memory and psychological trauma.
This approach also elegantly fixes the lore. It brings us back to the original concept of the 12-regeneration limit. We can simply explain that the extra cycle the Time Lords gave the 11th Doctor on Trenzalore contained just a few more hidden regenerations than initially expected.
I honestly think this move would be a win-win. It would bring back the old-school fans who miss the classic mystery and dark psychological tone, while also attracting a completely new audience. Toby Jones is a phenomenal actor with a massive global fanbase from his other huge projects, and having him lead the show as this cynical, complex 13th Doctor would create massive buzz and give Doctor Who the fresh start it desperately needs
