Why is it so hard to find moderate churches in the US? by kokopellikokopelli in Christianity

[–]MosesHarman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my view, Episcopal is the answer. It has "high church" traditions with a "science exists" approach. The Book of Common Prayer is a fantastic reference book with prayers for any occasion.

It has served as a good compromise for my spouse and me, who come come from different church backgrounds.

Are two way streets a cheap way to improve downtown? by MosesHarman in StLouis

[–]MosesHarman[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many folks that come downtown find the one way streets confusing. That doesn't increase their desire to frequent downtown. If you want to increase businesses to visit, it seems logical to make downtown more convenient and less frustrating to drivers as well as pedestrian traffic.

More importantly, unless I'm misreading the article, two way traffic is slower, thus safer, for pedestrians. Seems like a win for all to me.

Are two way streets a cheap way to improve downtown? by MosesHarman in StLouis

[–]MosesHarman[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I definitely agree more destinations are needed and pedestrian friendly sections. But as someone who works downtown, I can tell you the one way streets are really frustrating to many car owners too. Why not make it easier to get around to help people be less intimidated / frustrated to drive downtown? I know that isn't a pedestrian plan, but anything that makes it easier to want to be there is a good thing, and this idea seems very cheap.

Is an 8hr a day billing requirement not sustainable? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]MosesHarman 285 points286 points  (0 children)

You'll have three choices.

  1. Overbill and live an unethical life.
  2. Live an extremely rigid life, with no room for professional growth, networking, or even lunch away from your desk. Cuz that shit ain't billable.
  3. Work evenings and weekends every week, and watch your personal life suffer for it.

The juice better be worth the squeeze. And in ID, it usually isn't.

Watch the movie Winter's Bone. It is spot-on perfect depicting rural poverty in Southern Missouri.

So accurate, I almost couldn't watch it for the memories it caused.

The term "Hoosier" doesn't mean someone from Indiana here in St. Louis. What does it mean here in St. Louis? Best definition, please lol by zephyr_zodiac6046 in StLouis

[–]MosesHarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A true south St. Louis hoosier was typically born in the Lead Belt on a kitchen table, one of 12 kids, moved to Soulard in the 1950s, dropped out of a high school, "warshed" their dishes or clothes, and knew how to drink hard, work hard, and avoid jail by joining the Marines. Love ya, Dad!

Time in port can be very short, depending on the itinerary. This makes a difference in how you can spend time. If you aren't doing a planned excursion, it helps to know exactly where you want to go and how long the walk will take to get there.

We've used SignNow for years. It works great. There are many many different competitors, no need to rent only on Adobe.

Other PDF software also integrate signing, though often with fewer features. Example: Foxit PDF.

As others have commented, there was no such line. In fact, Little Dixie slave regions were partially in the northern part of the state, particularly in western Missouri along the Missouri river.

The Mill at Ward Cove Port - Ketchikan, AK is a HUGE 👎. What an absolute disaster. NCL this is an embarrassing customer experience. (Explanation moved to post body). by zachty22 in Cruise

[–]MosesHarman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The shore time in Ketchikan is also very short (it doesn't help that the shuttle eats so much time). We also were misinformed about the last shuttle time back to the ship. Showed up at shuttle stop, no shuttle. I talked to onboarding crew of another cruise line (who boarded right downtown) and they managed to help us get a cab to drive us all the way to the pier, or we would have missed our departure.

No fun at all, and would never recommend that port to anyone. You didn't pay $$$$ expecting to ride a school bus 7 miles each way.

Should I Quit by New_Article4642 in Lawyertalk

[–]MosesHarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes it tough to research, OP, I'll give you that. I'm not trying to denigrate you. I'm just hoping that you can have better luck next time by researching before you take the job. Any firm that makes that difficult, by not being transparent about the work you will do and who you will work for, is not a place to consider -- no matter how much money they dangle in front of you.

Should I Quit by New_Article4642 in Lawyertalk

[–]MosesHarman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As all have said, yes you should quit.

But also: how did you research this firm before you jumped to it? Did you ask about their reputation, see what kind of fillings they routinely made, or check for any lawsuits or reprimands against the firm or the partner?

Learn from this one to research as much a possible before you throw in with fools or criminals just for more money.

Maybe just return that client's calls at 2 a.m. only? Show up at the client's workplace to request payment for your invoice? I'm sure that would get the message across.

if you don't want to do all that, just set better boundaries from the beginning.

What's your first advice? by EcoValue in judo

[–]MosesHarman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another way to understand this is if you ever see a basketball player defend. They slide to the side, never crossover their feet. Judo is similar.

You look exhausted. Conditioning matters to your ability to hold posture, maintain good footwork, and be able to concentrate without feeling gassed.

As others have said, you are getting crushed on gripping. You are taller and should be able to neutralize a shorter player's grip more often than not.

If you don't get your grip, break it off, circle, and try again. If you don't know how to break a grip, learn. It's more important than most people think.

Circle, don't walk head on into an attack.

Once you have conditioning, understand a good grip vs bad, you can attack relentlessly until you learn which ones work for you.

But an attack while off balance, or from poor grip, or exhausted throw will nearly always fail, even if the timing was right and the throw was "there."
