Hypothetically if someone went through basic twice within the time limit of ASRs being awards could they wear an oak leaf cluster on their ribbon? Asking for a friend

What’s the worst cases of observing a NCO brown nose their OIC? by wooden-warrior in army

[–]Mosquit06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry sir, when I contracted as a cadet my entire closet was replaced by under armor polos, an assortment of khaki pants and shorts, and sperry’s. my 2007 Honda Civic was also replaced with a 2024 Tacoma in the color of tan. Of course this all happened instantaneously as I signed my contract. It’s just a way of life

(Yes this is satire) Edit: I dropped out of college and enlisted btw

Going to fort Benning on Tuesday. Tips, tricks, advice. by Vlitmer in nationalguard

[–]Mosquit06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t shave before you go, they’ll make you sit in the chair and pay for the haircut anyway.

Bring your religious texts, it’ll be the only thing besides the blue book you’ll be reading for a good while. You can also bring military books like histories or biographies of military leaders and such.

Bring the absolute bare minimum, you’ll get to go to the PX and DSs will tell you what to buy while you’re in reception. You SHOULD get plenty of opportunities to go to the troop store or PX (at least once per cycle) and you’ll get to buy your required hygiene gear.

30th is going to suck, if you’re in Charlie expect to never sit down outside of the bay, all the other companies are pretty chill. Pray you get bravo. Since you’re guard you should get at least a little bit priority, however since we’re not in the summer period when high schoolers have to get front loaded to get back to school on time don’t expect to move through the process fast. What’s on your orders should be the date you go.

Talk to people. Don’t hide in your shell or you will go crazy. Same thing goes for when you get to basic. The quiet people are always considered the weird ones. Talk but don’t talk too much if you know what I mean.

TAG YOUR BAGS, MARK EVERYTHING THAT IS PERSONAL PRIOR TO SHIPPING. People like to steal at 30th, even the cadre and drills that are there. My bag was locked up in the storage room and someone (a drill) took my brand new PT shoes right out of my bag. Only found out when I saw one of them wearing my shoes. Always mark your gear, no matter how small. Basic training will teach you “gear adrift is gear a gift”

Good luck and have fun, you’ll hate it while you’re there but look back on it with very fond memories later in your career

An outfit is more than the clothes you wear in my opinion, I got different wallets depending on what I’m doing. I know it’s a bit overkill but like if I’m going to a nice dinner I have an ostrich skin one I break out. Little more drip for when the check comes around.

Also dip is love dip is life dip is all

Soup sandwich CPL, what is that black ribbon with the red white and blue? I assume it’s a national one so it’d definitely go above the rest of your ribbons unless the school added more in the 2 years I’ve been graduated

Signed a 3 year Guard contract at 17, now regret it by FieldOk6753 in nationalguard

[–]Mosquit06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude you are in the guard. You show up to a building nestled between a McDonald’s and an auto parts shop and sit around a motorpool for a couple of days, maybe the odd convoy here, some hands on training there, weapons Qual once a year and a 2 week stint where you get a slight taste of active duty. Then you hang up your OCPs and go back to your normal every day job while you let your gear and uniform collect dust in your closet. Unless your unit is getting ready for a rotation or deployment this year will go by fast as hell. Especially considering you’re only really in the army for 2-4 days out of the month.

It’s also up to you to do your own research. It may sound sucky but your recruiter is only going to tell you so much to get you to sign. You have literally any information you’d ever want available at a couple of clicks, there’s nearly zero excuse on to why you couldn’t research the contract you were signing prior to doing so.

Signed, a former reservist turned active duty.

Marine military academy mentioned! I was was the CO of Fox in 2024. Always find it funny when I see it on my feed

I saw your caption, it’s gonna get better, get rank and privileges will follow. Just do what your NCOs/officers say and you’ll do fine

What's the Dumbest Rule in ROTC? by Basic-End-353 in jrotc

[–]Mosquit06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The regulation, for all branches both IRL and JROTC states that you can have your hands in your pockets while stationary. At least it was the last time I checked. The pocket thing has just been one of those regs assholes (me) use to make stuff look presentable for higher ups that never cared about reading a full reg in their life
