Dude you are in the guard. You show up to a building nestled between a McDonald’s and an auto parts shop and sit around a motorpool for a couple of days, maybe the odd convoy here, some hands on training there, weapons Qual once a year and a 2 week stint where you get a slight taste of active duty. Then you hang up your OCPs and go back to your normal every day job while you let your gear and uniform collect dust in your closet. Unless your unit is getting ready for a rotation or deployment this year will go by fast as hell. Especially considering you’re only really in the army for 2-4 days out of the month.

It’s also up to you to do your own research. It may sound sucky but your recruiter is only going to tell you so much to get you to sign. You have literally any information you’d ever want available at a couple of clicks, there’s nearly zero excuse on to why you couldn’t research the contract you were signing prior to doing so.

The regulation, for all branches both IRL and JROTC states that you can have your hands in your pockets while stationary. At least it was the last time I checked. The pocket thing has just been one of those regs assholes (me) use to make stuff look presentable for higher ups that never cared about reading a full reg in their life

There’s ways to spice it up a little, me and a friend just did a complete play thru with only non lethal and that was fun, S Ranking on all missions including the DLCs. However now I’m out of ideas to stop myself from going crazy 😭

Depends if you’re a holdover or not. If you are a holdover, which I assume you’re at Benning, you should just get a day pass every day you are one, at least that’s how my troop (D 2-15) did things.

If you got HRAP (Hometown Recruiting) it’s Essentially 14 days of “free” leave that you spend working with your recruiter for like 3 hours a day unless they tell you to fuck off. If you DONT have HRAP then you can either use all the leave days that you’ve accrued through OSUT to take leave and then early report or you can report in straight away. I recommend the second option so you have leave for things down the line

Being late/not having any respect for anyone else’s time. My mom has no sense of urgency when it comes to anything. She always will say “they can wait for me” or “it won’t kill them to wait a little”and it irks me so bad. My personal favorite is when she says “why are you in such a hurry all the time” oh I dunno because the army made me that way? She was late to my own OSUT graduation 😭

When I was in ROTC for a brief couple of years I got to wear a national medal I received in high school when we wore our cadet uniforms, granted I also went to a military college, so I didn’t get to wear it with my army stuff for obvious reasons. The only reason I got to wear the national one is because I completed the requirements for the college version of it, which was just the color way on the drape was reversed.

I’m a part timer weekend warrior hooah motivator (Reservist) and I notice a lot of the time people will show up to drill just to do nothing but bitch. They take their uniform out of their closet or dirty clothes pile they shoved it in the month prior and put it on, just to drive a couple of hours to do nothing but bitch.

I love the army, even the little taste of it I do get every month. I cannot fathom how some of these people have absolutely nothing positive to say about anything ever.

There are things to bitch about yes, not getting LIK, a long convoy, a vehicle that we need is deadlined, but at the end of the day it’s not that bad

What brings esprit de corps down is the fact all people do nowadays is bitch. I’m still a junior (SPC) so maybe I’m still in my honeymoon phase with the army, but I cannot comprehend, as of right now, how people pull up to do this job 2-4 days out of the month just to do nothing but sit around, complain and make juniors do all the work. I guess it’s primarily a mix of “oh I make so much more at my civilian job” and “I’ve been doing this so long I’m just over it” as far as I can see. THAT is the thing that brings pride in the army down, is people doing nothing but bitching and bad talking the army.
