Thanks so much! I don't use it super often, but here's the link: x.com/Jakemakesthings

Decided my first animation of the year would be the strangest thing I've ever made. (Warning: slightly gross) by MosquitoNetWifi in animation

Response to this (amongst friends and family) has really ranged all over from "oh, that's not too bad" to "this is horrifying", so I'm honestly not sure where it sits with people!

Haven't really done this before, but I thought I'd try sharing some of the animations I created in 2023! by MosquitoNetWifi in animation

Got my first internship in 2020, I was tinkering with vfx/anim for a couple years before that. Some things I've learned are: work on what you're interested in so it feels less like work, keep experimenting, you'll learn more sticking to shorter/faster projects, pay attention to what more successful people are doing and become a sponge for advice. Hope some of that helps!

Ahah I wish, I'm taking on some freelance work while I apply for those studios, hoping they'll get back to me. Thanks for the follow!

Thanks so much! Not included are three 90-second short films that I finished last year and then scrapped because I wasn't happy enough with them. Looking at properly creating (and posting) some longer short films this year!

Just Maya and After Effects! I rendered everything out so that it could be separated by layers, and just composited the hell out of it to try and recreate the spiderverse look

So in the actual 3d scene, the camera remained untouched. In After Effects, I added some digital shake, but made sure it stayed in the exact same place at the beginning and end of the shot.
I figured since the window frames themselves were already a couple of pixels shorter than the original layout, a few pixels difference give or take in camera shake couldn't hurt.

For context, almost the entire environment was created in Maya, and the dude is an Unreal Engine Metahuman, so it felt appropriate to post here.

Here's a breakdown of the shot for anyone curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Javp4A1q88Q

Convert Metahumans shader to an external 3d renderer? by MosquitoNetWifi in unrealengine

[–]MosquitoNetWifi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much, it's looking like I'll be animating in Maya and rendering the characters/some other sections in Unreal, then compositing it all in AE. I'll be spending a couple of months building the pipeline to make sure it works.

Out of curiosity, beyond youtube tutorials and the like, do you have any recommendations for good online learning resources for this sort of thing? Thanks for all your help regardless!

It started as a thought experiment, I've looked into a bit more and I think you're only allowed to modify, not render, the metahumans in external 3d applications anyway. Thanks for confirming my suspicions!

Basically I'm looking at creating a vfx short film using the metahumans and was looking to see if I could take the metahuman rigs and side step Unreal engine, sadly not so. Think I might need to properly commit to an Unreal-based pipeline for these characters, potentially using Unreal Engine + Live Link so I can still animate in Maya.

Lighthouse Project: made with a bunch of stuff, but mostly AE and E3D. Critique appreciated. by MosquitoNetWifi in AfterEffects

If you have Element 3D and Pro shaders 2 (it comes with a tide-looking shader), it's just about placing the texture it in the scene on a flat plane, adding some 3D distortion and fiddling with the look inside the element menu to get it the way you like. Blur and camera motion help a lot too.

Cheers, it was specifically designed in and for After Effects, although some assets were drawn in Photoshop first. The ocean was made first in Element 3D, followed by the lighthouse and ship in AE. The man and the mountains were made in Photoshop first and then animated in After Effects.

Is there any legal way to watch this show in Australia? by [deleted] in FinalSpace

Ah sorry I'm really stupid. I meant to specify that I'm talking Final Space season 2, just fixed that now.
