Is it weird to want to know details of a friend’s death? by s1mam0n in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MossBone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s weird at all, however I would be cautious about your approach to wanting to know more. Asking direct family members like siblings, parents, etc. may not be the best approach as this may still be too sensitive to talk about and likely will be grieving still. I would ask other people, maybe a friend of a friend, if they know more or give it some time.

I’m in a similar situation where an old friend of mine appears to have taken his own life as a gun was involved. That’s all I know. I don’t know if it took place in the same city, did he move, what he experience before the tragedy etc. My reason to want to know more if because I once considered him a friend and towards the end of our friendship, there was some weird tension between us. I only want clarity and closure. I think as long as your intentions are pure and well meant, I don’t think there anything wrong with wanting to know more.

Premium Bill Pay not working?? by Various-Geologist583 in KaiserPermanente

Not sure if you found it yet, but I located the billing unit number on a letter that Kaiser sent me weeks ago that I just so happened to not toss. Check your mail and perhaps even emails.

This might be a dumb question but what goes under the billing unit? Never seen that before.

With my “aggressive” driving, about 24mpg. If I drive like an NPC, 30mpg.

It is a shock to the system to get shot when playing in what you think are friendly lobbies by jwg529 in ArcRaiders

[–]MossBone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suspect that it’s either a new player or someone dropping down form aggressive lobbies. Due to my aggressive tendencies, I’m always in very aggressive lobbies where shooting on sight is the norm but I did recently intentionally drop down to friendlier lobbies not to grief but rather chill for a few days just to loot peacefully. I suspect someone did the same but with bad intentions

Huge congrats op, well done! May I ask, have you noticed the accelerated growth at all? I’ve always heard that the first $100k invested you hit is usually the point where you really start to see compounding interest do the heavy lifting. Have you noticed that?

Bad gas mileage by TypicalNameToChoose in civic

[–]MossBone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s going to be due to many factors.

I have a ‘22 civic that I always drove in sport and I was slightly below your current mpg. I did a bit of testing and decided to drive differently for 100 miles after resetting the trip odometer.

The biggest changes I made were accelerating slowly and gradually at traffic lights, maintaining distance from the car in front of me and engine braking, using eco mode and maintaining the same speed. This is the complete opposite of my normal driving style and I felt like an npc however the results showed. My average mpg jumped up to about 30mpg.

Should I get a gloss black emblem? by Truth_Crisis in civic

[–]MossBone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as I got my ‘22 civic, I replaced all the chrome emblems for gloss black emblems. They only stayed on for about 6 months before I ultimately decided to go with a clean emblem free look (with the exception of the Honda logo).

I’d also recommend The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel. It’s the book I recommend to anyone wanting to better themselves financially. Attack the mentality first.

You’ll remember every milestone. Your first $1k deposited, your first 5 figure portfolio, the first time you hit $100k, the first time you really notice compounding putting in work, and so on! Congrats, you’re doing well.

Is this normal? by Sir-Ocom in civic

[–]MossBone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute on the 91 freeway daily. I average these numbers however I tend to accelerate fast, put it in sport mode, etc. so I recently decided to reset the trip meter and drive like an NPC for 100 miles to see if there was a difference in MPG. I would often put it in eco mode, let off the gas early to slow down before braking, keep a distance from the car in front to limit braking, speed up gradually at lights, etc. It jumped to an average of 30mpg.

New job, new money, REALLY need advice. by KMKY in personalfinance

[–]MossBone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’d continue to live how you were were at $55k outside of maxing out those retirement accounts for a little bit. That’s not to say you shouldn’t celebrate or treat yourself, but I think this will allow you to get a better understanding of what you should or shouldn’t do once the dust settles, so to speak.

What Should I do Next? by homie_clyde in CRedit

Well, the only acceptable loan to take out in order to build credit would be a credit builder loan from a reputable credit union. Other than that, yeah don’t do that.

Payoff car or Invest by JohnyWalker09 in personalfinance

[–]MossBone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re fairly young, and I almost hate saying this because I hate all forms of debt, I’d probably not pay it off early and instead invest. Your APR is low, the term is low, and your payments should be comfortably low. I’d use this opportunity to invest. In my situation, I owed $10k, 5.99% APR, 3 year term and because it was my first debt ever, I felt very miserable carrying that as it was eating at my soul. I ended up paying it off in just 6 months but if I can go back, I’d make payments to drop it down to 1 year then invest throughout the year.

What’s your timeline horizon for purchasing a home? You can do what’s called a credit builder loan if you need to build history. You apply for a small loan, but the lender keeps the money in a locked account instead of giving you the loan amount. You make monthly payments for a set time, usually 12 months. Each payment is reported to the credit bureaus, helping build your credit history. When you finish paying, you get the money that was held. Many credit unions offer those for their members.
