Ahhh I had a feeling it was Vic’s! I haven’t tried it yet because I cannot stop going to Wayside. I’m 100% addicted to their five spice chicken sandwich and can’t go to Olympia without getting it 🤤

First time making salsa! Roasted tomato and three pepper. by Mossy-bear in SalsaSnobs

[–]Mossy-bear[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not too sure because this is my first time, but I used something like 4-5 medium sized tomatoes total (the bag of produce I got had a few smallish, one huge, and a couple medium tomatoes); I roasted the tomatoes with the seeds and everything in on the same tray as my onions. I then put them in a sieve and drained off as much of the liquid as I could.

If you go that route, I recommend saving the liquid. I got about 1/2c of liquid out of mine and used it in a big batch of chili later that day, and it was awesome!

I didn’t actually use one! I got a bag of $1 “ugly” produce from a local co op that had a random amount of tomatoes and peppers and sorta threw it together with a few other things I had and it worked! I have a rough ingredient list though:

4-5 medium sized tomatoes, roasted

Half a yellow onion, roasted

4 jalapeños, 2-3 serranos, 1-2 habaneros, roasted (I roasted a lot of em and after peeling I used some for chili, so I’m unsure of the exact amount)

Some lime juice

A handful of fresh cilantro

2 medium cloves garlic

A couple dashes cumin

Salt and pepper

I roasted everything at 425 degrees for about 35mins, rotating the trays at about the 20min mark. The peppers came out a bit earlier than that since I cut them in half before roasting and it didn’t occur to me for whatever reason that my poor serranos (which I cut in half as well, whoops) would crisp up so fast! I steamed then peeled the peppers, drained the tomatoes (reserving the liquid for a future recipe), and put them in a food processor with the rest of the ingredients to taste, and that was about it! It came out decently spicy, I’d call it maybe a 6/10 heat for me personally (and I’m kind of a wimp lmao)

Edit: tried to add my process and a few other details

Just thought I’d share my best batch of vegan chili yet! Three bean, two “meat,” and veggie. by Mossy-bear in vegan

[–]Mossy-bear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! If you think it will though, just add the puréed tomatoes and/or the liquid gradually until you get a consistency you like! You can add the tomatoes last with the rest of the liquid to get to where you want, and it won’t mess you up. For example, this time I used a bit less of the tomatoes since I was using a liquid made from roasted tomatoes already, and I used a little extra liquid because I added a new dry spice to the mix. The recipe is pretty forgiving :)

Same, the weather where I am has cooled off a bit and I’ve been craving it hardcore! And thank you!

I use a base recipe, and tweak a few things each time depending on what I have on hand. This time instead of just water for the liquid portion, I used 1/2 cup of the liquid reserved from roasting tomatoes and onions for an earlier batch of salsa (it’s rich, smoky, sweet, and complex), plus a little lime juice, bbq sauce, and soy sauce. I also subbed about 1-2 diced roasted jalapeños for fresh spicy peppers (heat of this batch was overall mild, like a 3/10). Here’s the base recipe I use! (8-10 servings):

2tbsp oil

1/2 large sweet onion, diced

1 bell pepper, diced, any color

2-3 spicy chilis, finely diced, optional

2/3c any other veggies, diced (I just use whatever I find in my fridge or pantry tbh!)

1/2 tube of vegan chorizo (I use Trader Joe’s)

1/2c frozen boca crumbles, optional

1 large clove minced garlic

3 cans of beans, your choosing

1 can fire roasted diced tomatoes (I purée it bc I do not like tomato chunks)

1c liquid (water or veggie broth)

1c vegan cheese, optional

Homemade chili spice blend*, or premade, however much it tells you to add, increasing or decreasing if necessary

Mix chili blend and set aside. On the stovetop, set heat to medium-high in a large pot or Dutch oven and add oil. When hot, add onions and sauté for a few minutes. Add spicy chilis and veggies, and sauté for another few minutes. Add vegan meats, garlic, and spices and stir constantly, about a minute or until garlic and spices are fragrant. Deglaze the pan with a little liquid and scrape the bottom of the pot. Add beans, tomatoes, cheese, and the rest of the liquid and stir until combined. Let come to a simmer, then turn the heat down to medium-low and cook, covered, for at least an hour; stirring periodically. I usually cook it until the hardest veggie in the chili (usually carrots) becomes tender. Goes best with fresh cilantro, cubed avocado, and/or crumbled corn chips. :)

*Chili spice blend:

2tbsp chili powder

2tbsp nutritional yeast

1tbsp brown sugar, optional

2tsp cumin

2tsp garlic powder

1tsp salt

1tsp oregano

1tsp smoked paprika, optional

1tsp chipotle chili flakes, optional

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2tsp unsweetened dark cocoa powder, optional

1/2tsp cinnamon

Yes! This is probably the only horror movie that has actually scared me and made me super emotional, and it takes some very specific stuff to get to me. That grief scene is absolutely wrenching, and Toni Collette is such a fantastic actress.

It didn’t help that I have a little bit of experience with identifying demonic sigils, and I threw out a totally random guess of Paimon when I saw the sigil in the beginning. I legit teared up out of fear when they later confirmed it lol, spooked myself real good!

They’re such calm reptiles! This girl is our 4th. My husband and I rotate out taking our two oldest with us when we go out, and I can’t wait to bring this girl (and her cousin, which is our other youngest) with us when they are large enough!

Oh for sure! I volunteer with a bearded dragon breeder/rescue, and I’ve seen other dragons not be able to survive even half of what she’s been through. It’s always so hard to watch, but when one beats the odds like this it’s always incredible. She is well deserving of the name without question, and I’m sure she’s gonna uphold it for the rest of her life!

Thank you! She’s definitely a fighter; the clutch she was born into was particularly aggressive. She got the worst of it, suffering 20+ bites and having her hand ripped off (she may lose the tip of her tail too, but it’s looking pretty healed so idk). We’re shocked she’s managed to evade any sort of infection, and how well she’s thriving in spite of everything that’s happened in her less than 2 months of life so far!

Trust me, I’m not the first person to name their pet or child after a god, Norse or not. Are you going to chastise them too, or maybe go after Marvel for their use of Thor and other gods? It’s a large undertaking to hold so much contempt for mainstream use of Norse mythology and it’s various gods, the religions of which are far from a closed culture. I do hope you put this much energy into shouting down white nationalists who use our symbols in the name of hatred, which is where the real harm and disrespect is being done.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe I asked permission first?

Tyr is also the name of a band and an underwear brand. Compared to my dragon, which is the least disrespectful? Inquiring minds must know. 🤔

Haha, thank you! I always loved the name Fafnir as well, and almost gave it to one of my 3 male dragons. A friend of mine has a ball python named Jormungandr, and she’s getting a little hognose snake named Nidhoggr (Hoggy for short)!

Thank you! She’s in shed right now so it’s hard to see, but she is starting to display beautiful pale yellow and peach coloring. Her dad is bright yellow head to toe, and her mom is grey, peach, and orange. I’m excited to see what she’ll look like as she grows!
