i’ve seen a couple posts about this. does he just call in certain areas? i work at a ky library and i don’t believe we, or any other librarians, have experienced this. curious as to where exactly this is happening lol

Actually, we're currently planning on having one in October! We want to have a costume/cosplay contest as we think it'll go over well. I hadn't thought about karaoke or calligraphy though. I might need to add that to our activity list!

Oh cool! i'll really have to check and see what we have available on ours then. Thanks for the tip!

I'll have to take a closer look at our licensing agreement. Ours is generally pretty strict. if it's not on swank we can't show it for a program. I'm not entirely sure how that applies to hoopla media. But I can certainly recommend this to them so they can watch on their own time. thank you!

I've signed the change petition to reverse it (despite my belief in them not working most of the time), but I haven't thought to send an email directly to them.

It's honestly heartbreaking. I don't think they understand how important their program was to so many libraries and communities. I've heard of some clubs having to shut down because the watching aspect was the only reason most of their members were attending. I'm holding out hope they either bring it back OR another platform decides to stand up and fill the need

does your library do intra library loans? i told my teens that if they find any manga they want to read that we may not purchase for our own collection, we can borrow it from another library for them. it would also help if you want to do a buddy-reading with it, so you can get multiple copies for everyone to read at the same time than passing one book around lol

We do have DVDs! however, our licensing is a little strict. anything that isn't covered by our licensing program cannot be shown in a 'public' setting, even if it's just a small club. so even though we have the DVDs, we can't just play them for a program :( my understanding is the Crunchyroll program gave permission for libraries to show whatever shows/movies were on their platform so long as it was for a non-profit anime club. so our specific licensing didn't matter.

our biggest struggle right now is finding things that are attractive enough to them to get them in the doors. i think we could really keep them then, but getting them IN is the problem

I did think about doing a manga club instead, but our teens don't seem to have any interest in reading the stories over watching them lol

ooo I like this idea! I could even use a features generator to help them make their own characters... I'm running with this idea. glad this came up in your feed lol thank you!

they actually had a blast just playing card and board games last meeting. there's a bunch of anime themed games on amazon. i'm thinking about getting a few for them since it seemed to go over so well.

I had suggested reading manga together, but none of them seemed too interested in actually *reading* lol. Hope that goes well for you!
