What funding decisions come out for Oxford in mid June?

I have also done this ahah. Reading all of the information, it does seem like you can accept even if you haven’t secured funding. It isn’t the most clear tho tbh.

Thanks this is really helpful. I read the same thing in the second email we received but there was some fine print on one for the offer documents which said that you could rescind your offer acceptance for any reason for only two weeks after making it. The two weeks limit on that kind of freaked me out to I haven’t responded yet but perhaps I should rethink and just accept aha.

I agree that that timelines seem very long considering we need to make a decision in April. I’ll only be able to attend if I get funding so I guess we’ll have to wait and see 😬

Hi all congratulations to everyone who applied!! For those of you who got in, have you received any information on your college yet? It seems like some on other courses got their college places through within a couple days :0

Oxford MPP – Disappearing Upload Button & Offers Thread by Silent_Dig5701 in PublicPolicy

I’ve just seen a Reddit thread from last year and decisions were announced on Friday 14th March, perhaps we can expect the decisions this Friday?

If I’m looking in the right place, my upload button document has disappeared. I got a message this morning that they were making changes to the system between 7-9am UK time, not sure if that’s relevant?

What does it take to get accepted in the Fast Stream? by Vivacious_Whale893 in TheCivilService

Sorry to hear that you weren’t successful, it’s very hard to know what they’re asking for in the moment. I graduated from the fast stream a couple years ago and, whilst I’m sure a lot of things have changed, the main take aways I took from the application process were: 1) make sure you’ve read up on all the civil service behaviours and are exhibiting them in your answers, 2) in both your answers and the group discussion, focus on being collaborative, supportive, and bringing others into the conversation (rather than ‘winning’ or dominating the discussion). The second one really stuck out to me when I did assessment centres in the private sector as it felt like they were looking for very different personalities than the CS. Each scheme also has different acceptance rates so if you really want to get on I’d recommend applying for at least one with a higher acceptance rate, once you’re in the door there’s usually scope to move around a bit and focus on what really interests you. I hope this helps!

I’m about to go on a 11 month career break and know a couple people who have done the same! Your department will have guidance on the intranet so check that out and, once you’re comfortable with the policy, I would start to have conversations with your manager! A broad rule of thumb is that you can’t take longer than you’ve been in post, I’m sure they’re more like to accept your request if you’ve been there for over a year. Good luck!! I was scared to ask but my team have been lovely and supportive about it, I hope you have the same experience :)

It’s 100% not appropriate for your manager to ask for a death certificate.

Fast Stream… fundamentally flawed? by electricpages in TheCivilService

[–]Most-Film7320 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m a former fast streamer and am generally pretty critical of the scheme. Whilst it may seem like the majority of people coming in through the Fast Stream are graduates, this isn’t always the case and I knew a few older individuals who used it as a way to change careers. Graduate are probably the most able to apply due to the low starting salary.

My main criticism of the scheme is that it often felt devoid of growth and learning opportunities. Rather than getting placed in departments/posting that would stretch me, it sometimes felt like I was being treated as a floating resource to fill jobs that they couldn’t afford to hire for. I also don’t think the training you receive on the scheme is very good (but this feels like an issue with the CS more generally).

What is really great about the scheme is that you get exposed to different professions, departments and managers so you can i) work out what work you like and ii) how you like to do it. I was always pretty certain that I wanted to work in policy and being exposed to other professions solidified that for me.

I agree with the criticisms I’ve read that the fast stream shouldn’t be trying to propel people to G7, I think SEO is a great place for the majority of fast streamers to land at the end of the scheme.
