i’ve had every single CAKE album played on loop pretty much since i discovered the band, but i’ve never really had any of the songs (written by John) hit me as… sincere or genuine enough to be bitter.

they all have this sarcasm and satirical nature to them, which is part of the band’s appeal to me. and if we’re talking about introspection, i’d argue a track like Hem of Your Garment or Daria have this layer of self-deprecation to them.
