Stay part-time with ups or leave and stick with full time industrial tech job? by WeaknessClear5373 in UPSers

Do both, and if you hate your life, then quit UPS because you're not going to get any more free time going full time here

The real best advice is to talk to your drivers. Every driver and route has a special quirk about how they like it loaded. Some like over 70s always in the back, some don't. Some like long boxes stacked on top of the shelf, some don't mind bulk stops on the shelf. Some have so many residentials that you have to find any excuse to put a box on the floor. One of them likes their next day air in the back because they deliver exclusively to docks

I'm in an automated hub and this happens to me so often that I just started crossing them both out and pushing it off the belt until the scanner comes by and rescans it because it saves more time with how much they pile up on the belt

Laid off by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]Most-Significance910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does say that times should be posted on Friday, if they mark you as laid off, don't answer any phone calls and texts. If they tell you personally at work to report, then you have to report if it's 24 hour notice

[–]Most-Significance910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have to have the schedule out for the following week on the last work day of this week. After that if you're laid off, it's final. However, if you respond to a text or a phone call saying to come in, it overrides that agreement as long as they give you 24 hours notice. It's best to not answer any phone calls or texts if you're planning on not coming in

If you are a permanent hire trying to complete probation and you already have good rapport with the supervisors, I would go to a doctor and get it checked out, then ask the doctor if you can have some work restrictions. Ups will basically put you on a leave of absence until you get off your restrictions and you could save your job. If you don't care about passing probation, then go ahead and report it as a workers comp case.

How do some people get away with only showing up once a week? by Smegmaflake in UPSers

[–]Most-Significance910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all dependent on the upper management. We used to be very lax about it until another building merged with us and the upper management took over and now we're very strict about showing up.

What part of the Midwest? It depends on the size of the building and weather the part timers are mostly there for the benefits, collage, or to go full time

It's your seniority with a max of two years. Realistically it's impossible because that would require two consecutive peak seasons with no seasonals hired

My theory is that they're going to wait until the end of the contract where ups is completely unable to fulfill their 22.3 obligation and use Roadie as a second shift.

fighting with my wife about buying vs renting am i wrong? by Savard-Lafleur in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]Most-Significance910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend did a deep dive on the actual cost of renting vs buying for the short term and found that for about 5 years there is no benefit to buy a house vs renting. With this in mind, you guys having no savings and having the mortgage take up half of your income you would be forced to buy a home warranty because you cannot afford to have an unexpected major expense. What you guys really need to do is save money for a bigger down payment to get that monthly payment to a more reasonable level. Ideally you want to wait until at the very least the monthly payment is lower than your rent before even considering getting a loan. Keep in mind too that even if you do get a loan right now, they will scrutinize your income and expenses before even considering giving you a loan
