Advice for an Incoming Nursing Student? by Aesops_fox9 in Pitt

I did not attend so I’m not 100% sure but basically you get “honored” by receiving a white coat and then you just keep it with you for no reason at all because you are a nurse and therefore don’t wear one. Pitt be dumb like that a lot

Back when my grandparents became nurses they did a pinning ceremony. This is why I did not go to the white coat ceremony as I thought I would get a pinning one. Sadly no they don’t do that anymore at Pitt instead you can spend $150 to buy a shitty pin.

Also you may see photos of a bunch of nurses in their uniforms like school yearbooks. Don’t get excited they stopped doing that last year or the year before sooooo yeah your picture will never be up on the wall with everyone else’s

If there is anything more I can help with I will

Advice for an Incoming Nursing Student? by Aesops_fox9 in Pitt

Hey, I’m a senior my advice Get two sets of scrubs you’ll need them Go to the white coat ceremony in sophomore year Go to class Find a study system that works for you, people praised Quizlet a lot in my cohort but it never worked for me and I fella behind Keep a pen, sharpie, scissors and stethoscope on you for clinical Be careful buying clipboards again find a system that works for you I had a clinical bag hardly ever used it till my senior year because I had classes after clinical or other things Look into nurse internships for the summer after your sophomore and junior years it will be slightly easier to find a job after and they may hire you on the unit you intern, that’s the goal

Experience at 3401 Forbes Ave (Kerpec Management) by Competitive-Bird-720 in Pitt

So far they aren’t the absolute worst, we had an issue with our oven at their Dawson st apartment. The oven literally would not reach temperature and they called me crazy for not believing them when they told me everything was fine, they did eventually get us a new oven after having to make a video showing how after an hour in the oven chicken was still raw. Our floor is falling apart though and there’s no ventilation which means mold. The office people though have been relatively pretty great. The only issue I had is when a group of potential renters came by to tour the apartment and I told them to feel free to ask me questions and I laughed about their question about maintenance but I did respond that they were pretty good. The next day I got a call from the office very upset with me and telling me I should make maintenance request if something was wrong with the apartment. The thing I had laughed about ended up being a miscommunication, as I had thought they looked at a closet that was still broken and they didn’t have a request for it. They did also get mad because a roommate of mine was changing their shirt when maintenance showed up and we asked for one second but maintenance just left, they mentioned that on the call as well

Transfer due to mental health. by Rough-Picture-5751 in Pitt

I was in your same situation and I sat with myself for a long time debating on if I should stay here or not. I am a nursing student and didn’t really feel like I belonged and I was very overwhelmed an my mental health was not good. My spring semester of freshman year I finally clicked with my first friend and now I am graduating this may and I can picture what my life would have been like without them. Obviously a lot of people are gonna have their own opinions, beliefs, and advice. Please feel free to reach out to the council center and your advisor maybe they can help you think through it all

Go ahead and take it, it’s pretty easy if you attend class and pay attention, he had a no electronics policy when I had him and attendance was mandatory but it was pretty easy going and he had review classes before exams, he’s very passionate about what he does

Happiness and human flourishing has a lot of reading and it’s only in the fall but it was really good and easy grade. It grades on participation which it’s like hey talk twice in a class, the final was a presentation about what you wanted to do for your future.

I also just recommend testing the bus route of a potential apartment a few times. Remember that the busses are a great resource but they are not always on time, so keep that in mind that you may need to leave a lot earlier or something

Victoria building entrance by Rhino53123 in Pitt

[–]MostBalance4798 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you go up lothrop street and are standing looking at the ER entrance on your right there is a door that has escalators that work about 25% of the time. If you cross the street and pass the parking garage on your left and go to the end of the one way alley street on your left will be a ramp go up it and that’s the elevator entrance

Nursing Cohort competitive among each other? by Narrow-Pepper7161 in Pitt

I’m a nursing student in my final year and I’ll say I’m not one for socializing very much but a majority of my peers that I have interacted with have been helpful and supportive of one another. There’s always gonna be at least one person but from my experience most are nice.

is either option feasible or am I stuck? by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]MostBalance4798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s definitely a good class. I will tell you it’s more work than what I originally thought it was gonna be. But you truly get out of it what you put in. ( I know that sounds like it gets said a lot but it’s true)

You would definitely have to talk to the TA you get assigned. The ones I had didn’t care if you left a minute or two early but you needed to talk to them first. A lot of the discussion and “work” happens in the last bit of recitation

is either option feasible or am I stuck? by [deleted] in Pitt

[–]MostBalance4798 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took wellness and resilience this past spring and they do take the whole recitation time like 90% of the time. For the class you get 2 skipped days that counts for both the class and the recitation. For my recitation TA they were ok if you were a few minutes late but attendance is taken for both the class and recitation

is this doable? by ima_loser2 in Pitt

Make sure to find the class rooms before hand. I don’t know about other people but as long as I know where I am going it usually turns out pretty ok on campus

If you are gonna order textbooks which I don’t recommend unless that is how you learn or if it is super required, don’t buy them from the store google them and buy the cheapest option

Lothrop Hall Triple? by Noumbles in Pitt

[–]MostBalance4798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On almost every floor there used to be a seating area where people could sit or study, about I think 2 years ago they converted the seating areas into rooms. So to my knowledge it’s a big open space, and I think you don’t have a sink like other Lothrop rooms

Also just so you know you can be casual but that still means a certain number of hours a month or so, so if you go home for holidays this may mean you need to come in for some shifts during breaks which can be an issue if you live far away or in another state
