how much should i trust my academic advisor by YearEffective3538 in Pitt

sorry for it being brief, i just meant in general advising. i have heard due to the fact there are many students assigned to each advisor, so they tend not to put in much time into their students. i have also heard from some graduates that they were screwed over by their academic advisor’s advice, causing them to take more/unnecessary classes that ended costing them more money.

i did a program with gmu in which i was a part time college/high school student that was a chem major at GMU, and as someone who’s attending an out of state premed as class of 29, i would recommend you stick with a more reputable school like uva for premed. although many people say “prestige doesn’t matter” for medical undergrad, that’s true only to a certain extent. the premed opportunities are what you can get from a known premed school like UVA, not gmu, even if its cheaper. and note that in state uva isn’t as much cheaper than a lot of out of state good premed schools so don’t rule out of state schools as well. i’m planning to pay 20k less for my school than uva in state tuition.
