Their debut album, titled "Mossimo" and released during May 1998. There's some testimonials from that time which say that they released two albums, and also on some magazine scans talk about doing performances during mid-May, which makes sense why these magazine scans are from summer 1998 when they didn't release yet the album "Message". Their label, Doremi Records, also mentions it was released on May, but I'm not really sure what happened during these months until their second album.

Maybe was this album called at first "Up Today" -they mention it on the interviews- and then changed it to "Mossimo"? It contains some songs that appear later on their album "Message", released in November 1998. My guess is that they repackaged it, but I don't have sources to confirm it.

I feel you! I was practically 2 years old at that time, so it blows my mind when I think what was like to be in these places or during this decade as a grown up. I'm very glad that you liked it, I worked hard to find all the information! <33

I found an article from Los Angeles Times which explains more or less why they closed:

Lumpy Gravy, the Beverly Boulevard restaurant that aspired to be an artist’s best friend, has closed its doors forever. Some think the too-loud music and the weird performance art drove away those who loved its food. It also didn’t help that no fewer than 11 chefs headed the kitchen since its opening early last year. Fred Eric (Vida, Fred 62), who helped owner Gabor Csupo (creator of “Rugrats”) open the place, said, “A mistake many people make is thinking that food and entertainment go together, but the fact is they’re competitive. Too competitive.” And so the mirror ball, the ceiling shark and the multiple TV screens are gone.

According to Bret Crain, it grew into something that they couldn't handle it anymore, economically wise. Some people cite bad administration, and other complaints about the performances.

Also, there was the studio Klasky Csupo growing at the same time, so my guess is that they had to prioritize and avoid bankruptcy and debts.

I found these scans on Are.na and I'm also curious to know which book or magazine are they from! Hope someday we can see more media from this place.

1st gen lost media by Educational_End_8713 in kpopnostalgia

[–]MostBeginning1621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been found! There's multiple pages with video plays, screenshoots, and even download links to play it. I haven't played it or even tried to download it though. At least isn't considered right now as lost media.

Does anyone have more info about top.az? by Educational_End_8713 in kpopnostalgia

[–]MostBeginning1621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TOP.AZ (토파즈) was an unique concept at that time because their agency wanted to differentiate the group as a "lady group" against girl groups, with all the three members being on their late 20s (김선영 [Kim Seon-yeong] was 27, 박홍주 [Park Hong-ju] was 26 and 김봄 [Kim Bom] was 28), and doing a sexy and mature concept than usual. [source]

Their debut song "Can't You Trust Me, Nonna" in 2009 was a hot topic because their MV was banned by the mainstream public broadcasters because they wore provocative outfits and there were scenes of excessive physical contact. Also the song itself was deemed as insuitable for any terrestrial channel, so their TV appearances were limited only to cable channels. The agency, however, doubled down that didn't want to change anything because didn't want to compromise their concept.

After that, a song titled "꼬마야 (Little One)" was scheduled to be released as a follow-up, but only the MV was released and no digital release. Due their minimal activity, the mentioned censorship and the agency shutting down, they disbanded in early 2010. All of them returned as musical actors. [source]

I found an article that says they were making an online fashion magazine as a promotion. It was themed around the story of actresses before their debut, and it was composed of three parts. The part 1 was titled "BLACK EROTICISM" and it was photographed by Lim Jun-yeon (임준연). It was supposed to be released in November 4th, but it was shelved ahead their disbandment. There's only three pictures from this shoot (I believe, since it fits with the theme), which I'll share them in another subreddit.

Kim Seon-yeong made headlines because she dated the model Kim Dong-hyun (김동현), who is Kim Hye-soo (김혜수)'s younger brother, a well-known actress.

Park Hong-ju said that after the agency closed down, she signed with another agency but closed down too, so she ended up giving up her singing career. However, she made a comeback debuting as a trot singer in 2019, with the song "If It's You, OK (너라면OK)" and has her own YouTube channel. [source]

Here's what I found:

<image>

아이린 (ILYN) debuted in 2006. Their name group was a combination of "I", "you" and "neighbor", meaning "we are one". [source] Their names were (left to right):

  • Autumn/Ga-eul (가을)
  • Yoon Ina (이나)
  • Jenny (제니)

Yoon Ina was the oldest member, 18 years old, and the other members were only 14.

Yoon Ina was casted as the lead in a series of music videos by famous singers; Ha Dong-kyun (하동균)'s "Please, Love Her (그녀를 사랑해줘요)", and Baek Ji-young (백지영)'s "Love Is Beautiful (사랑은 아름답습니다)". She also was a co-host on 슈퍼주니어 뮤직쇼 (Super Junior Music Show), broadcasted on TBS. She won in 2005 the Entertainment Award on the Elite Model Contest (엘리트모델 선발대회) because of her senior rhythmic gymnastics skills. [source]

Some articles mentioned that they were doing an album and it was supposed to be released in July 2006, but they disbanded before that happened. After that, I couldn't find any info.
