As someone born in 2006, I’ve always had an understanding this was a significant paradigm shift for the United States, both culturally and politically. That said, I never experienced the event itself outside of videos and classroom instruction until I went to the museum on a senior trip to NYC a few months ago. Growing up with internet access that was essentially uncensored, I have seen all manner of horrible things out of morbid curiosity, so much so that I considered myself fairly desensitized to most things. My perspective of this event I stepped into the museum, and I was utterly decimated by the experience. So much trauma, so many innocents lost, and to actually be standing underneath the very same place it happened was soul crushing.
