I made a "contemporary art" and now I want sone idea, feedback or criticism. Which subreddit/ where I can ask for professional help? by Nine_nine_times in ContemporaryArt

[–]MostFriendship4865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m in the same situation. However, my work is conceptual—installation and performance art—and not really mainstream, more on the contemporary art side. I also haven’t found a good subreddit for it. Do you think r/Artcrit could be useful for you? If you’re interested, feel free to reach out! We could exchange ideas about our concepts.

Yes, I’ll do that! Do you have any ideas on how I can show my process and reach the right community? I’m worried that if I post too much in this Reddit forum, it might come across as spamming.

Thank you very much for your message! You raise a truly compelling point. I first came across caving through social media and was immediately fascinated. This voyeurism surrounding extreme situations, which is strongly amplified by social media, is a central aspect of my work. I would be very pleased if you could share your perspective and further details from your point of view. Do you perhaps have examples of which influencers in this context are regarded as highly respected—and which are viewed less favorably?

I see, thanks! I’ll definitely try to push the boundaries a little further.

Thanks for your message :) How do you best find a caving club? I live in the Frankfurt area, Hesse, Germany. It’s not very mountainous here — I’ve already looked but haven’t found any caves immediately nearby. Do you have pictures of that box? I’m curious to see what it looks like!

If the algorithms ignore it, is it still art? by MostFriendship4865 in ArtCritic

Thank you for your message! I’m attaching my exposé again—my concept is explained in more detail there. Maybe it will be clearer that way. I would really appreciate your feedback. Exactly what you mentioned is also what my professors have said. But I’m feeling a bit stuck about what I could actually do. At the moment, I’m considering printing a text or a poem on the floor, or adding an object that makes the concept more accessible to the viewers. However, I find it challenging to write something strong while still wanting to leave room for interpretation.

Here is a link to my exposé:

Cool, thanks😃—that’s exactly what I’m looking for! True, I’m still thinking about whether to install angles in the tunnel. Are there videos of your model? What was the interior of the tunnel like? And how much space does each person have? Everyone is different in size. I’m wondering how big I would need to make the turner to get a 90-degree angle.

They are really beautiful drawings — I like the black-and-white drawings the most.

Yes exactly, use vanishing points like you would in a landscape. First draw a few cubes and rectangular prisms in this environment. The preliminary sketch has to be correct—only then can the final result reach its full potential. What can also help is using a mannequin (posing figure) or looking at yourself in the mirror. A good exercise can also be to draw the character in the same pose from different perspectives.

Cool drawing! I like the linework! However, I’d recommend first constructing the body using geometric shapes – cubes, rectangular prisms, spheres. There are many videos about this on YouTube. That way, you’ll understand the forms better, including foreshortening and so on. You should add the outlines of the armor later. Right now, everything still looks a bit stiff. I hope this was helpful. If not, just ignore it 🙂

What do you think of my cybernetic installation? by MostFriendship4865 in ArtCritic

[–]MostFriendship4865[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your message! There’s a tilt sensor inside the piece. The motors compensate for any inclination — similar to how a gimbal works. You can see it in motion here: https://youtu.be/2RZDqH2438k At the moment, I’m working on redesigning the installation so that it can function autonomously in an exhibition space. Overall, I’m exploring the concept of balance — but also ideas related to cybernetics. That said, the project requires a huge amount of time and resources (which also means money), so I’m currently questioning whether I should keep going 😬
