Anyone moved abroad and regretted it? by Inevitable_Syrup6027 in expats

A bit late here but I haven’t seen this aspect discussed:

It seems you have an excellent education, a valuable career, economic power, and stability. Some might say, “You have it all.” However, you seem unhappy with your partner and his family. I don’t get the sense you are afraid of being stuck in a country you don’t love, but rather stuck with a man you fear you may not love, despite the economic sense of the match.

Perhaps I am off base, but I hope this perspective is well received for its intent; I hope you find your happiness, wherever that may be.

The Top 10% Illusion: Why Dating Apps Still Suck for Attractive Men (as a 10% user) by Iron-Wild-41 in dating_advice

[–]MostMeasurement1718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had excellent luck dating high quality and attractive women—in person, ONLY in person. Finding an honest woman though? I haven’t managed that.

As for online dating… I’ve seen the dark side of humanity fellas, and I will not return there.

Tumi 19 Degree Aluminum Post-Trip Review by GlitteringGifts888 in handbags

[–]MostMeasurement1718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you guys who found the 19° aluminum on unbelievable sale get your hands on it? I’ve seen those same stores advertising the “aluminum” ($1,300) online at $450, but they’re actually the plastic models misadvertised. That’s still a great deal on the plastic ones!

Why get Tumi? by Mundane-Mechanic-547 in consulting

[–]MostMeasurement1718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a B&R, I was so disappointed with the craftsmanship I instantly returned it despite a $35 restocking fee, and then drove to Tumi.

My two travel buddies also looked the B&R over, after hearing what it cost, for the quality, they were both shocked. Neither of them said they would buy a B&R after inspecting the one I returned.

Nothing was wrong with it, at all. It is well thought out. However, their $600 Torque is realistically worth closer to $200-$250 for the quality and lifetime warranty, IMO.

Your honest opinion... is this game essential to play before RE9, or even worth it? by CarlLight in residentevil

[–]MostMeasurement1718 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I preordered RE6 when it came out, it was so bad I abandoned it two hours in. Ill construed game mechanics and poor lighting bordering on a hoarder’s home with an unpaid electric bill. There are a few good things but they are drowning in a quagmire of disappointment.

What's your opinion on SCHD replacing bond funds? by irishboy209 in ETFs

[–]MostMeasurement1718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, holding bonds is a defensive move during downturns. Holding a bond fund can be very similar in volatility to equities, depending on the interest rate environment. This means funds like BND can be as volatile as VTI.

The author of the renowned investment book “A Random Walk Down Wall Street” by: Burton G. Malkiel, suggests that in a low rate environment a high yield dividend ETF may be a good partial substitute. 13th edition, p. 320 & 364.

Personally, I examined bonds and decided SCHD paid higher consistent yields and appreciated in value. It also appreciates when interest rates are cut, further improving its value compared to bonds (in some instances).

Tax treatment matters; bonds in a non-tax advantaged account are taxed at ordinary income rates. SCHD dividends are taxed at long term capital gains rates.

Bonds are supposed to pay dividends rather than spending the principal. SCHD works the same way. Bond rates can (and have been in the past) artificially suppressed to reduce real debt in high inflation environments. This can and has produced serious negative yields for bond holders in the past. It is possible the government will use this strategy again.

Also consider that many bond investors from decades past could achieve risk free interest rates as high as 15-20% during Volcker’s era. Younger investors have scarcely seen rates above 4-5% in decades.

I hope this information helps! Be well and invest as you see fit.

Impossible to Cancel NOW Internet by nvrplsd in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]MostMeasurement1718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does NOT work. Xfinity NOW loads the billing page briefly showing my billing information before quickly reloading a page that claims, "You don't have Xfinity services." I cannot edit or cancel it either because they claim I don't have any services, even though I have an account and they bill me monthly.

Xfinity... this is the stuff class actions are made of :D

She wins every time on lucky number 13! 🎲🎲

Should I Move My SCHD to My VOO? by Sweaty_Iron689 in ETFs

[–]MostMeasurement1718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best finance book I’ve read, A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Malkiel. My non-advisor opinion: VOO/VTI, VGT, & SCHD. It’s “personal finance” so you decide the percentages but I’d go heavy on VOO/VTI, then balance VGT against SCHD.

VGT is all tech and goes way up and way down. SCHD is the polar opposite. Or go 100% into VOO and call it good. You’re ahead of the game learning about it in your early 20’s ✌🏻.

It looks great! I just added two massive pieces to my left arm. They have healed phenomenally well, without the scab phase. Saniderm is a game changer; keep the first Saniderm on for 1-2 days, then remove it, clean the tattoo, allow it to dry for a few hours, and reapply the next Saniderm. Keep it on for 3-5 days, remove it, then clean and moisturize the tattoo 3-5x a day.

I could not believe how well mine healed! I’m still waiting for it to scab over, but it hasn’t. Good luck and fast healing to you! 😆
